It finally happened, I'm about to cry
So, today was the day my wife was going to get a playbook. She's been recently promoted to a community manager position and I offered to get her a tablet of her choice. We discussed her work needs: calendar, email, tasks, google docs and I told her about the benefits of PBOS2.0. She's heard me talk about the pros and cons of the iPad as well, and was pretty sure she'd go for the PB.
For my misfortune, I made a few critical mistakes:
1. I took her to Best Buy and while we were playing with the demo, a sales rep came up behind us and told my wife not to waste any time with it, because there is a new model coming and the current one would be obsolete. Of course I defended the playbook and asked the guy to tell me what he meant, he said it would not be able to run the old apps, only the new apps. I defended the PB of course and basically told him I had done my homework and that I know what I'm talking about.
2. I let her talk to the Apple rep manning the iPad kiosk. She expressed her indecisiveness between purchasing a tablet and the guy asked her what were her choices. When she mentioned the PB, the Apple rep and the store manager (who I suppose was doing his rounds) flat out laughed at me for showing them my PB. I felt so small.
3. I was so upset about the comments that I walked away and left her playing with the iPad, granted before the rep came to intrude, the pages app and key numbers app crashed multiple times.
So there you have it I'm getting my wife an iPad, because I am a man of my word, and also beause I failed to convince my wife of how the PB is superior for what she wants it for.
I want to cry right now please tell me it will be ok
**UPDATE**
Let me first say I don't like the route this thread started to take, MISOGYNY IS NOT OK in any way.
Second, I posted this thread in the spirit of some good laughs and seriously 100% being sarcastic about wanting to cry. So my wife prefers an iPad over the PB, which I've had since launch and I've praised over how great it is, big deal. The reason we are married is because we're not carbon copies of each other. I'm glad she got something she wanted and I'm really proud that she got her promotion. And finally, I'm glad we have choices and that WE decided not to make her purchase at Best Buy. We were finally treated with dignity and respect at our local AT&T store and even got a 32GB iPad with a $100 discount. Not to mention we got our account adjusted for other offers we qualify for, turned out to be for the best.Last edited by mikelcal; 03-11-2012 at 01:10 PM.

Whatever works for her, she's going to be the one using it anyways.
Perhaps life is just that...a dream and a fear. - 03-10-2012, 03:39 PM #4
Your wife trusts random sales people more than she trusts her hubby? Harsh! Sorry to hear that.
In the end, she's a big girl and can make her own choices.
Sounds like she got promoted yet you say you offered to get her the tablet of her choice?
You "let her talk to the Apple rep."
Are you her daddy?
You say you're a man yet you're about to cry. Big baby. Suck it up and realize she's a grown woman and is going to get whatever she wants.Last edited by chrisy520; 03-10-2012 at 03:42 PM.

This is such a huge hunk of ...
I wish she had gone for the PB. Not because this is the PB board. But because YOU have one. Video Chat. That would be enough reasoning really, since both tablets pretty much do the same stuff...
Unless of course she has an iPhone, an iPod and an Air. Than, by all means, get an iPad.
EDIT: Btw, if ANY sales rep laughed at me for whatever reason, I'd make sure not to leave the store before they were properly fired.Last edited by diegonei; 03-10-2012 at 03:45 PM.

Every choice you made was wrong!! lol!! It's funny how being nice and going out feeling great can just go so terribly wrong all of a sudden and explode in your face leaving you with a sick feeling, sucks man.

No. I think it's very likely. Just judging from the Original post.

Why do I never, ever meet these terrible sales people despite perusing BB and Future Shop on a weekly basis? Can it be they do not exist?
I mean, a sales manager and his employee laughing in your face? Why can I not buy that? I know managers in this field and they would never laugh at a potential customer's choice. They would discipline any employee who gave a customer a hard time.
Which begs the question: why did your wife buy it from them? If they made you upset, surely she'd be upset too? I would've taken my money elsewhere.Thanked by 3:EdwardBlackberryHands (03-10-2012)

Think of it this way, now you have one of each in your home. That's not a bad thing...
If the salesmen were laughing at you, I would've said loudly "Ok honey, lets get you the iPad, but at *insert other retailer's name here*.Last edited by Blackberry Guy; 03-10-2012 at 04:18 PM.

I would've left the store and let her get an ipad at another store if that is what she wanted. A-hole laughing,no sale there and no soup either!
In fact you should return it now and tell them it sucks and buy it elsewhere.Sent from me using my fingers. Be pantless in 5K. Febreze - for more than smells.

She didn't like their treatment very much either, especially since she's been hearing me dismiss all the lies about RIM in the media and because she loves her white Torch. And although she decided on the iPad, we took to our local ATT store, and the manager was all out of 16GB iPads, and he gave us a $100 discount on the 32GB model on the spot (it was a goof, he mentioned they only had the 32GB model and I asked him jokingly if we could get it for the same price as the 16 and he said "yes" so he stuck to his word and let us get it.) Not to mention, he also gave us a bunch of other discounts on our current services. Turned out to be for the best. I was only joking about the crying part, I did say she could have what she wanted. And as it's been mentioned, she's the one who's going to use it.

If the sales rep is laughing at you then I would have said out loud "Ok honey, let's go somewhere else and buy. I don't need to be humiliated or disrespected because of my product choice". I would have confronted them on the spot and make them feel stupid. Man up, they're sales people and customers are always right and you shouldn't buy from a bunch of people who just humiliated you.

This is the same experience I went through when I bought my Playbook at FutureShop.
My wife and I went straight to the Playbook display and asked the sales woman to get one for us. The Sales woman looked at me like I had four eyes and told me I shouldn't get one because it was an awful product (this was the weekend before OS2.0 came up). My wife's mouth dropped to the floor... I told her I really didn't think so specially with the new OS and she would not let it go. She told us it was a very faulty product, all those news about the new OS were only rumours and that in fact the PB was being discontinued AND that I was very misinformed. I said I wanted to buy one anyway, and if she wanted to get the sale she better open the glass and get me one. She was very upset and I was too. I just could not believe my ears.
Then she had the nerve to offer me a $60 leather cover, and I told her no, that after the terrble experience I was just getting the playbook and I was getting the accesories from a place where the salespeople listened to customers.

of course your wife would want an ipad.
shes a girl, they like to follow trends, bandwagons, and be spoiled, not get a discounted tablet that has "potential."
just get her the ipad, imagine her browsing through the market downloading free apps, free GOOD camera apps that she'll enjoy, or skype with her family.
i wouldnt suffocate my girl on getting a playbook knowing the app market is nothing compared to androids/apple's - 03-10-2012, 05:05 PM #25
