It basically makes the app useless, you can no longer purcahse movies. You can still watch and download the movies you own but you cannot buy any new ones. I didnt update on my second playbook and the app still works fine. So if you want access to the store DO NOT UPGRADE.

If you don't update the app it should still work. On the playbook i updated it on it basically rendered the app useless except for the movies you already own. On my second playbook i am still able to browse new videos for purchase.

Are there any alternatives? Renting movies was the only thing that still made it useful.

I was also curious with the blackberry world video section going down what would happen on the playbook. When I opened the video store app on my playbook, I was forced to update the app. It wouldn't open unless I did. When I did update it, I had the same results. My old purchases were still available, but there is no longer a store to rent or purchase from.

Hopefully they will implement the Amazon storefront on the playbook to, if only for music and movies. Not holding my breath though.

I updated and have the same results, too. Looks like the kill switch update to me.

That was my experience. Updating the app did no harm.

Yep, you don't have a choice anymore but to update the vid store. Looks like the Playbook is definitely dead now. Buried by the closed vid store. This really blows, because I tried watching American Hustle on my Z10...
