When I ordered my PB from Radio Shack this weekend, I was surprised to see that they didn't offer a protection plan like other dealers. The guy on the phone told me that maybe I could buy one at the store where I am going to pick it up or I would have to order it form RIM. Now RIM offers a two year plan...for 139 bucks! Do I need a protection plan? Have other people bought them?
I bought my 64GB for $229.99 from Best Buy so I didn't want to spend $159.99 on a 2-year Best Buy Accidental Plan or $139 with RIM.
Plus, some credit cards will extend the manufacturer's original warranty up to an additional year for free. So, 2 years warranty for free with my American Express card is enough for me.
If you want a more affordable warranty, try SquareTrade.com.
I didn't get it, I should have but I figured the manufacture warrenty would be good enough. I guess I was wrong. After reading all the problems with the PlayBook in the forums, I keep my fingers crossed and hope nothing goes wrong. So far so good since May. No problems with my PlayBook to date.
As mentioned by Parked, having extended warranty up to 2yrs with my CC is enough coverage. I take really good care of my products and not worried about accidental drops, spills etc...
Got it from RIM for the two years of tech support given that the new OS will be out (some time anyway) and even though you guys are great, nice to get them on the phone 24/7.
I used Wave Group. 2 yrs $90 on my 64gb. $50 deductible but covered for $700 so we are good at today's prices. Covers everything, including loss and theft. we have two PB's and both are insured thru WG.
