Contacts from my phone
Hello. I just ordered a PlayBook. I am sure I will figure this out but.. When not using Bridge, how will I be able to view my contacts on my phone on my PlayBook. I have found how you would do this w Outlook contacts but not the way to do it with just my phone. Thanks for your help. Also is there a good link that answers my early nervous questions? Again, thanks.

Re: Contacts from my phone
If you are NOT bridged, you will NOT see the phone contacts. The pb has a Native/Separate Contacts app but you will have to find someway to load it using Gmail or Yahoo mail or some other supported method of migrating them.

Also when Bridged, will I be able to see My App World? Does anyone know if BeBuzz works for PlayBook? Will most of my phone apps be able to be found for my PlayBook? Thanks.

Re: Contacts from my phone
Hey there B&D Guru,
I thought I would add to F2's comments.
If your phone is a BlackBerry, you will need to login to AppWorld and download the BB Bridge software. This allows you to access your contacts, calendar and email, bbm&text messages on your PB. When you are viewing messages on your PB using the bridge, you can use your contacts just like on the phone to fill in the "to" & "cc" fields. But you cannot use BBM groups over the bridge.
The bridged contact info is unfortunately not directly accessible using the native mail & native contacts apps - one of my gripes which they will hopefully fix in BB10. You can go into your bridged contacts, find the person you want to email, edit their contact info, use the long press to copy the email address, go into the native messaging app and "paste" the address into your email address field. Getting it to paste into that field is quite finicky. But with some effort, it can be done. I'd love to have a RIM programmer watch this process then explain why they couldn't have made it smoother.
In their defense, they might just say, why not send the message out using the bridge message app. But that kind of misses the point. I might have an email account on my PB native message app that isn't on my phone. Or, I just want to do it that way cuz I like using the other cool features of the native message app. If it is about keeping the phone info private, all that can be done using various BES restrictions. For those of us on BIS, we would prefer to have full and easy access to our phone's contact info integrated into the native messaging app. Doesn't seem like too much to ask for given RIM's strength in mobile messaging & PIM integration.
Regarding AppWorld on the PB, it is accessed using the same BBID you set up your PB with. Access to AppWorld on the PB operates regardless of whether you have the bridge set up, as long as you have wifi access. A new feature of OS 2.1 is that if you are outside of wifi range, AppWorld can be accessed on the PB if the PB is bridged to a BB phone with mobile Internet service. I use the same BBID on my phone and my PB. There are different apps for phones versus tablets altho there is a lot of overlap.Patrick from Calgary

Re: Contacts from my phone
when bridged the app world on your phone does not apply to your playbook. the playbook has its own app world and apps. i searched app world on my playbook there is no app called bebuzz.
The bridge does not allow you to use EVERYTHING on your phone. i.e you cannot use the apps on your phone on your playbook.
You get to receive texts, bbm, and some other things but not utilize most apps.Phones:Nokia 5110>Nokia 3360>Siemens C56>Moto RAZR>LG Chocolate>Pearl 8100>Bold 9000 > Bold 9900 >Z10 > Aristo

Re: Contacts from my phone
Currently the BlackBerry Desktop software does not sync contacts or calendar to the native calendar. If you setup an outlook.com account on your phone and the PlayBook, and set the contacts on the phone to sync to the outlook.com account, the contacts will appear on the PlayBook.
The BlackBerry Desktop software will sync your music from your PC to the PlayBook, just as it does for your phone. If the music on your phone is not already on your PC, you will need to import it into your PC then sync the PC music to the PlayBook. - 10-08-2012, 09:13 PM #12
Re: Contacts from my phone
When you get your PB you will see a gear on the top right corner. That's your settings button. When you touch it, a screen drops down with a set of titles on the left side. There's an accounts button to set up your email accounts. There's a Wifi setting as well as a bluetooth setting. The 8th one down is your bridge setting. You use this setting to pair your devices once bridge is installed on your phone. It is super easy so no need to worry. You should also check out the bridge settings on your phone as you can customize what you would like to see on your PlayBook. For example, I use the Playbook for a couple of my email accounts - mainly personal accounts - and use bridge for my business accounts. That way I don't have duplicates in my Playbook message box.
I found it was alot of fun playing around with all the settings to see what worked best. Bridge is a superb feature. You can always come back here with your questions as there are many people here who love helping others out and who want your PlayBook experience to be the best it can be.
Welcome aboard. Spread the word if it works for you as well as it works for many of us. The more of us out there, the better the experience and the community. - 10-09-2012, 08:57 AM

Re: Contacts from my phone
Thank you for everyones help. After thinking about my music concern I have thought of this. When I download music to my phone...i then plug phone into my pc and drag it into a file. When I get my PlayBook could'ny I just have my music on my pc, plug my PB into the pc and drag it over? I read somewhere that once plugged into the pc the PB acts like just another disk drive. Am I right on this?
