When I plug in the USB cable from PC to Playbook I get a message that the device cannot be charged from this source. Any ideas why not? It couples up to PC ok in Blackberry desktop Manager and can back up OK but won't charge from the PC.

It's because the power form a USB port is not powerful enough for the Playbook. We're used to charging small devices like phones and such, but the Playbook is a more powerful beast.

I find the USB is powerful enough (just) to maintain the charge that is there, but it's not enough to charge up the device. So what you're seeing is normal.

No it wont. There is not enough power from the USB port on a PC to charge the Playbook.

A search on CB would have confirmed that as it's been mentioned many many times.

You have to use the charger that came with the device (yellow plug) or the rapid charger that can be purchased separately.

It's not enough to charge the Playbook if the screen is on.
If the screen is off it will charge eventually but very slowly.

You can ignore the message. As Agnus said, it will charge, slowly. Standby and airplane mode would give the best results.
