Is this Cascades I see before me?
Is it just me or some apps seem to be taking advantage of Cascades already?
Dailymail seems one and Stuntpear too. Or am I getting it wrong? - 05-19-2012, 06:25 AM

Hmm, I thought an update was required. The transitions are smooth but ui framework doesn't look like cascades.

No, Cascades is not available for 3rd party developers on PlayBook yet.
Daily Express is an HTML app built with Blackberry App Generator. That basically takes news feeds and builds a branded RSS reader to display them.
Stuntpear is a port from IOS, so that rules out Cascades. Probably built with Cocos2D, but it could easily have been done with AIR or even Webworks.Files & Folders for PlayBook and BB10: a powerful unified file, folder & cloud manager and media streamer with integrated SkyDrive, Google Docs, Google Drive, SugarSync, Dropbox, Box, thumbnails and more - Free 3-day trial! - Voted Best New BlackBerry App - 05-19-2012, 07:36 AM #7

Cascades in NOT out for the Playbook. It is only beta for the BB10.
And there is a much deeper change in the QNX kernel. The Playbook is based on QNX 6.6 and BB10 is based on QNX 8.0. - 05-19-2012, 08:36 AM #11
The only app currently using Cascades 4.0 is Pacemaker Beta.
There's a few RIM apps using the earlier Cascades 3.9 though such as PrintToGo, Scrapbook. - 05-19-2012, 08:57 AM #13
We were told by RIM developer support that third party Cascades apps will not be accepted into App World until BB10 is ready to ship.

In theory you can use the Cascades SDK to write your app.. Ship the required libraries with your app and it should work fine with present OS 2 ..
Example Scrapbook / Pacemaker etc .. - 05-19-2012, 09:09 AM #17
Cascades in the form you're talking about is simply NOT available for doing PlayBook apps yet.
Just having an SDK for one future version of the OS isn't enough. You also need the libraries to be available in the operating system. On PlayBook, they are not. (There is an earlier version, but it's ages apart and NOT based on Qt, so not what we think of as Cascades.)
If you think you're seeing signs of it in recent apps, you're wrong... sorry.Battery Guru for BB10 tracks voltage, power, battery health. (Also on the PlayBook.) White Noise helps you sleep or concentrate.

In that case kudos to the developers, I would take this as a compliment, if we think their apps have cascades.
PS, I have the Pacemaker but I have no use for it lol. - 05-19-2012, 09:40 AM #19
You are wrong
the Cascades SDK is for BlackBerry 10 development
PBOS apps will work on BB10, but BB10apps wont necessarily work on PBOS.
BUT apps that look like Cascades are most likely written in HTML 5 because HTML 5 and BBUI.js allow for many of the similar transitions and UI elements, and as some tweeters are putting it BBUI.js is actually ahead of cascades right now in usability and features.oops...

Interesting, I was sure Cooklet was using some bits and pieces of Cascades. Still a well designed app though.
