As much as I would like to have it earlier, I don't want to risk buying it in the States for warranty purposes. I have heard of all the issues people had with AT&T Torches, so I don't want to risk it...especially with a first-gen device.

The warranty for this release will be through Office Depot, Staples, or whichever electronics store carries it, they will no doubt try to lure you into their own extended warranty. Otherwise it will be through RIM, just like a laptop or anything else would be treated. You won't have to deal with carrier warranties until 4G models come out.

Yep, point still stands. You wont have the complications cross border that people did with AT&T. I purchase many things from Future Shop and Canadian tire, if it breaks I take it back, they never ask me where I am from or who my carrier is. If I purchase and extended warranty I "borrow" a Canadian address. The way the exchange is lately my wife's parents who are from Canada purchase down here more, we have taken things back for them, and returned on the next trip.

Very true,
IF you can bring the product back across the boarder for warranty then the point is slightly less.
Though the dealing with Canadian Customs coming back from the US is very painful with the dollar being on par, they expect everyone will have stuff to declare.
not that any of this matters, I am going to buy over boarder if the release dates are more than a week apartoops...

That is a valid concern, you would have to stay over for 7 days to be exempt for that amount. But, if you had proof that duty was already paid and you were returning for warranty, I would think you would be OK.. Where do you cross? I am about 2hrs south of the Alexandria Bay crossing, they are usually pretty good.

I cross in all sorts of Area's I travel for work,
but usually I cross in Niagara Falls. where for the most part they are not good.
I would have to look at what the legalities are for Bringing a product into the US for service/Warranty work.
the US has some weird laws, and so does Canada, I actually almost got denied access into the US a little over a week ago because I was flying into the US to provide training to US citizens on products that may have been made in the US.oops...

They do get weird sometimes, my wife and I got married in Canada and I had to prove that the ring, purchased in the US, was going to end up back in the US. Silly..
