Default Can someone compile this HTML5 test and run it on the Playbook?

Today there is a report that stated that IOS kicked Android's on HTML5 3D performance.

Apple’s iOS runs HTML5 games three times faster than Android | VentureBeat

The full report has Playbook 1.0.8's result (listed below) --- which also kicked Android's --- but nobody reported that today. Spaceport never benchmarked the Playbook with 2.0 with HTML5 WebGL hardware accelerated canvas. Spaceport also put the source code of the benchmarking suite online (listed below).

    Spaceport -

Need volunteers to compile the benchmark suite and run it on Playbook 2.0.

Most of the HTML5 performance related tests below are dismally slow on PlayBook:

There is nothing to compile really, you download it and run it on a local web server. Done.

That's a graphics benchmark geared for PC graphics card (which comes with a huge fan) and the graphics card costs more than the Playbook.

Using the BB-PB Browser open The HTML5 test - How well does your browser support HTML5?. My result was a score of 354 out of 475. Click on tablets tab to compare others. Playbook OS 2.0 Rules. ios5 scores 305. Android 4.0 at 256.

Yes, the PB's webkit browser kicks a$$ in that test -- but it's a compliance test, not a performance test.

    Not quite.

The real trick is hardware acceleration of each of the rendering pipelines, Canvas, CSS, etc. So far RIM has WebGL acceleration, but WebGL is not an HTML5 technology, contrary to popular belief.

A GPU as fine as the PlayBook's could muster far more than the 0 frames per second that I get on most of the tests I referred to.

As far as that test goes my desktop Firefox only gets 332. IE 9 gets 141 Chrome gets 374.

Bahh humbug. I hate benchmark tests. They don't really mean anything.

The only thing that matters is real world experience and if you can't tell the difference then I don't need some "expert" telling me my device is better/worse than another due to some "score".

Benchmarks are just one way for nerds to meausre their you-know-whats and show-off to the world, and that's coming from a nerd.

Doing it too. It may be interesting if there are differences between our two.
    I'll edit when done.

It does 108 tests. About halfway through it should switch to font tests though.

You can compare the Playbook 2.0 raw score with the other raw scores. The Playbook 1.0 raw score is in the 10.0.1.151.json file. Then look at the actual report pdf file to see how they use the raw scores.

I don't know if the source code for the test needs to be changed so that it works with the new webgl api's.

RIM used the site GUIMark 3 – Mobile Showdown « Craftymind to demo how faster 2.0 was compared to 1.08 in HTML5. Indeed, 2.0 is about three times faster than 1.08 but when you run the tests on an iPad2 running iOS5.1, the tests runs twice as fast on an iPad2 than a PB 2.0.

If both devices have hardware GPU acceleration, then the ipad2 should be much faster than the Playbook because ipad2's GPU is much faster.

Well I don't trust this test... I just tried it twice on the exact same PlayBook and got quite different results (many of the tests changed their scores by up to 10% up or down!). Just goes to show, you can never truly test which one is "better".

I have put this up on my server and made it available to everyone here if you want to see what the test does. I also added a selection for OS 2.0

    On your Playbook browse to:
