What do you want to do on your playbook you cantndo on the fire?
How do you know they have a fire? Could be a 3G Kindle keyboard - there were plenty of those sold.
    Banco and kbz1960 like this.

It's not exactly me being pedantic when I posted first and you went off on entirely unrelated topics about books and phones.

But as I say, have it your way.
No allow me, you have it your way......... I'm gone...........

It is technically possible to use the 3G connection in a Kindle 3 Keyboard as a tether for your PlayBook or any other device.

That said, it's way beyond my abilities. Rooting the Kindle and installing Debian was just a matter of following the instructions I found online, but I don't know networking in Linux well enough to go beyond that. The person who claimed to have done this declined to post step-by-step instructions because he didn't want the increased traffic to draw attention. He provided enough information that someone with more skillz than me could do it, but his blog is now a 404.

Ok I understand I think? Why would you want to do that when you have a pb and a mobile phone???????????
it may not be a bb phone, & while they may be able to tether w/ the phone, maybe they want to tether to the kindle instead for whatever reason...

Believe OP just wanted to be able to get free 3g with playbook to do a bit of web surfing. See now with the Paperwhite that Amazon has now disabled the experimental browser. A work around was shown on You Tube to deal with this problem. Not sure which Kindle the OP has or how this might relate to current question. What Amazon has given Amazon can take away.

    And heres the refrain.

Now I've got this image in my head that I can't get rid of, of you sat on a wooden rocking chair playing Duelling Banjos and saying "I bet you can squeal like a little piggy"
