How fast in internet browsing using Bridge compared with tethered 3G over a Curve 9300?

Depends on your carrier speeds.
?? If the same carrier is being used, so irrespective of speed of the signal, is there a speed difference due to the way the connection is processed between tethering or using bridge to connect to the internet.

Yeah,it all depends on carrier speed and signal in the area, for me, for the most part is really good
So there is no difference in page loading whether tethered or bridged to a 3G BB, assuming the carrier signal strength remains the same?

No, it depends on your carrier. In South Africa, BIS speeds are significantly slower than normal 3G speeds, because the carriers try to throttle the BIS uncapped users.
So the answer to your question is, it depends on your carrier. If your carrier offers the same speeds for BIS and for normal 3G then your browsing speed will be the same.
You can do a speed test for both. BIS vs Normal 3G tethering
There are several sites that you can use to test the speeds. I think any of these will do what you are looking for.
1) Mobile Speed test
2) iPhone speedtest
3) Mobile Speed Test
Here is one more.
4) http://reviews.cnet.com/internet-speed-test/ (I like this one)
You're looking at a lot of variables... Carrier network, signal strength, Bluetooth 2.0/2.1 max data rates and pure tether vs Bridge.
Let's say your carrier can give you max 3G speeds and you have full signal strength. If you do pure tether (Options > Internet Tethering), your max speed will be that of your Curve's Bluetooth data rate (which may or may not be your carrier's max speed). If you are doing Bridge, then your phone will be a bit slower than pure tethering, because all data will have to go through the NOC before hitting the devices.
Should be ok for browsing anyway. I even streamed a video or two over Bridge at times or extreme boredom (read in an airport...).
You can compare the download speeds. Use Bridge and run a speedtest.net
Then disconnect bridge, tether and run speedtest again.
for me tethering wins hands down.
I'm confused.... I thought you couldn't browse the web with Bridge. I thought it was only for messages, emails, BBM, etc. How can I connect to the internet via Bridge as opposed to tethering? I haven't been able to get my tether to work. I assume it's my phone which is a 9700.
For me, in order of bandwidth from fastest to slowest:
1) WiFi
2) Mobile Hotspot
3) BT Tether
4) BT Bridge
Bridge is certainly slower for me. I don't know the specific reason why. I'm on ATT and BES. It seems as if it goes through a RIM server when Bridge vs. using PAM. PAM seems to not go through the RIM servers, but carrier only.
I can't get stuff behind my corporate firewall with a normal browser, but I can with the Bridge. Normally, I use WiFi Hotspot - it is without a doubt the fastest option.
From Free BlackBerry Bridge - Download BlackBerry Bridge - Free Apps from BlackBerry App World
BlackBerry Bridge™ allows you to pair you BlackBerry smartphone with a BlackBerry PlayBook™ tablet to:
•Use your smartphone’s keyboard, trackpad and touchscreen to remotely control your PlayBook™ tablet.
•Browse the web on your tablet using your existing BlackBerry smartphone’s connection, if supported by your wireless service provider.
•Get access to your email, calendar, contacts, memopad, tasks and BBM – all on the large tablet display.
So, the question is : Who is your carrier ?
Also, The biggest bottleneck for bridge browsing is the speed of Blutooth
Provided your BIS plan allows you to surf the web on your Bold: Bridge, drop wifi and try going to Google on the PlayBook.
It's that easy.
Briard and diegonei, thanks for your feedback. It seems to work and quickly at that. Tethering didn't before but for some reason Bridging it does. Either way, I happier and more portable now. It's been only 2 weeks or so since I got the PB and, although I'm happy I saved on the price, I wish I had one a long time ago.
For me on my carrier tethering is only slightly and I mean slightly faster than bridge. Wifi hotspot is about the same as tether so yes it is your carrier and speed and until you get faster than bluetooth speed which you can easily with 4g.
3G allows speeds of up to 2.4 Mbps
Bluetooth 2.1 has a practical data transfer rate of 2.1 Mbit/s.
When BB10 comes it will have Bluetooth 4.0 whilst Playbook has 2.1. What will that mean or change?
Well, got PB 64GB a couple of days ago. www via bridge is pretty decent and faster than browsing on phone. Yet to try tether - must find the various settings!
Well impressed so far.
