So I am the very grateful recipient of a brand new in the box 64g Blackberry playbook. I turned it on and was relieved to see that the set up process was straightforward. So imagine my surprise when I got stuck on the 2nd screen. There are NO wifi network options to choose from despite the fact that my laptop which is sitting next to it, is offering me the choice of 12. I tried putting in my router's details manually but it gets stuck on 'connecting' - for 3 hours! I have reset my own router - I have switched the playbook off and on again. I have downloaded the device manager (after reading on this forum that it could fix it) and linked the playbook with the usb, hoping that the device manager would 'fix' the problem. However it is just flashing the error message telling me that the playbook hasn't completed set up.
Now I'm not a technical person but I like to think I'm not thick! Have I missed something blatantly obvious or do you think this could be a hardware problem?
Grateful for any replies. Cheers. K.

Kate, here is some old advice from the official Blackberry Playbook support forum that looks like it could help you. They were having the same problem, no wifi option on setup and the solution was to reinstall the whole OS:

    Quote:
Try reinstalling the OS through BlackBerry Desktop Manager:

Step 1: Connect your PlayBook to your PC via MicroUSB cable and open Desktop Manager
    Step 3: Open Desktop Manager
Step 4. While still plugged in, completely Restart your PlayBook.
Step 6. A new popup window will appear giving you some options. Hit Update.
Step 7: Wait for the OS to be reinstalled and then try again.
    Unquote

First though, you need to download the Blackberry Desktop Software (not device manger) to do this:

    System Requirements - Canada

This link is for Canadian pcs, if it doesn't work for you, just do a search for the right version you need for your computer.

    Good Luck.

You might have to change the channel number in your routers settings. My wifes playbook wont pick up any channel past about 10.

Make sure its on channel 11 in router and also make sure its not HIDDEN so PB will find it.

You may have to manually set it up in PB, but it should be finding the WIFI.

Mine was hidden but i setup manually and it is ok, but i did go and unhide it afterwards cause the PB was kicking on and off at times from WIFI.

Take it back to the shop and get a replacement.

Are you able to access the setup screen and see what steps have not completed? Also is the wifi radio light on and set to show available connections? I was traveling once and forgot my PB was set on saved connections and was not showing any available.

hi - so I've reinstalled the OS three times (each time it says there is a newer version???) and upon reboot I receive this message:
Your BlackBerry Tablet OS is updated and you can safely disconnect your tablet.

Warnings were encountered during the loading process:

To use your tablet with the BlackBerry Desktop Software, you need to disconnect the tablet, complete the Setup on the tablet, then reconnect it to your computer

But still NO wifi options to choose from! Frustrating beyond belief. I believe this is a hardware malfunction - IKEA had gifted this to my friend as a Christmas present, and he had generously gifted it to me. When I put the serial number into the Blackberry website it tells me that I'm not eligible for the free support that comes with the new product
Shame this freebie was too good to be true.

hi - no lights are on because I can't complete set up. I reckon its a hardware fault and unfortunately can't get a replacement because it was a gift! and I've just tried connecting using WPS and just throws up the error "Failed to connect to the network"

It sounds like a hardware fault to me. RIM should be able to help you. Don't bother with email just call them.
Gift or purchased by you, it should still be covered by the warranty. In addition you will get 90 of tech support from the day it's registered. You will likely get a message that your PB doesn't qualify for tech support if you enter the information the website. A phone call should straighten it out.

Have you tried hooking up to another wifi? Say, at your local Starbucks or other hot spot?
