    Default Blackberry Playbook and Android

Just purchased a Playbook, little bit dissapointed by the apps (unless Im looking in the wrong place) I have bee reading about 'Sideloading' android apps to it. Now before I make a mess of my new playbook,

1 Is it safe to do this?
    2 Do they work?
3 Is it easy to do (for an )
4 If I make a mess of it how easy is it to return the playbook to its origional status.

Dont want to add a load of android apps if it is not adviasable

First, congrats for purchasing the playbook, and welcome to the QNX world

I try to answer all your questions:
    1. It is safe to sideload android apps to your playbook.

    2. Most of them yes, some don't.

    3. Yes, it is easy to do the sideload. Please minggle yourself to playbook section and sideload sub section at this forum.

    4. Just wipe up your playbook by factory reset. you can find it at setting, under security sub. if I'm not mistaken. If you wipe up your playbook, don't forget to stay at the place where wifi is available. Or you can connect your playbook at your laptop and run Desktop Manager. Don't forget to turn off your PB first, and backup your data.

Hope these answer can help you.

A nice thing about the PlayBook is that you don't have to root the device to side-load apps (native, air, Android - as long as you have the .bar file).

    1) The Android player is a virtual OS, so it runs on top of the PlayBook OS. It won't affect native apps or PlayBook security.

    2) Most work. The geek answer is that android apps created with the Android SDK (java) should port over without issue. Apps created with the NDK (c++) tend to not work.

    3) There are several apps available to side-load. Once you have everything set up, and the PlayBook in developer mode (turn on in settings and type a password), apps can be loaded rather quickly.

    4) As posted above, wipe the device from within settings and you're back to just like new.

I have several apps side-loaded and they work just fine. The only downside right now is that the predictive text option on the keyboard isn't available in Android apps. Hopefully that is something that gets added in a future update (the most recent BB10 Dev Alpha update includes text prediction in Android apps).

Had my PB a few days and today sideloaded the Kindle App.
Simple and quick following the CB guidance and all my books/mags appeared.
Now tempted to get another PB rather than update my keyboard Kindle as PB is same price/cheaper/better value etc.

The real issue would be battery life for reading and the backlit screen.

I was able to take my kindle3 on a 2 week car camping trip and read day and night and not have to worry about the battery and recharge. Also it is lighter in weight when I hiked and wanted a "book" along.
