A Berry fanatics Nightmare..
I regret to inform the blackberry community that I have lost/had stolen my 64gb Playbook. I was traveling to watch the draft last Thursday and towards the end I noticed I hadn't touched it in about 2 hours but it wasn't there and upon my efforts to back track my steps of that day I had no luck. I'm just getting over it as it been a week and I'm finally returning BBm's and phone calls again lol. I will be purchasing another but have to wait at least a week until after I get my mother a gift for there holiday.

OMG, I'm so sorry to read this. I would be heartbroken. I'm praying whoever picked it up finds their conscience and returns it.

Please tell us you at least had it password protected? I am sorry it is gone, maybe it will turn up?

Fortunately the Appworld requires inputting your password every time paid apps are installed. There's a period of time before the user is logged out of the Appworld, but it's like 10 minutes or something. Once the user is logged out, the thief would need the user's password to install paid apps.

If you post your PB pin some members can give a call. It may be with someone that would return it.

it is password protect so where ever it is it wont do them any good. I remember there's a limit of 10 tries what happens after the limit is reached??

Well, since it's gone, you might as well give up the Pin # and let some of our sleuthhounds make a heroic attempt to contact the
thief(whoops, might be considered a hate crime
) hapless ethically challenged individual who "inadvertantly" picked up your "abandoned" PlayBook.

The device is automatically security wiped after 10 failed password entry attempts. This is a handy feature but it can bite you in the posterior if you are the legitimate owner and inadvertently forget the password. So choose your password wisely; easy to remember, difficult to guess.

Perhaps stupid question, but if someone picked up a locked PB, how would they know to whom to return it?
(BTW, this is my first post from my BB10 Alpha!) - 05-03-2012, 06:54 PM #16
Is it possible to associate the device serial number or IMEI number with a particular user, maybe through the Appworld?

Very smart of you. I may just take that idea and do it myself. I always wished that there was a way to have your contact info show up on the password screen. In college I remember a suite mate found a BlackBerry (I am pretty sure it was a BB phone, it was a few years ago), and it had the contact information right there on the front screen for him to return it (there are still a few good people around).

Here's the example. It does NOT show in Portrait and would need tweaking since, at least, some Android apps lock it into Portrait so that when it asks for password, that part of the screen is missing. As mentioned, rim should provide a place to enter contact info.

I put contact information within the case. Someone would have to remove the PB from the case to find it though
