I have os 2.1.0.1314 on my playbook but can't open .bar files. I've read there's an android reader in this os but it says no apps are a assoiated with this file type. All help will be appreciated.

You don't open bar files. You load them to the PB system via one of the many sideloading solutions.

I suggest this one: PlayBook App Manager

Be advised no all android apps will work once loaded and not all loaded apps will work properly (either because they have the worng resolution, make use of native code, are built for Android 2.4+ or need drivers that are not avilable).

Go back and try again. Pay particular attention to the "Drag and drop files here to install" location in the Chrome installer.
