Default automatic redirecting to mobile sites

im just wondering if there is any way to set the browser to not go to mobile sites. i have theChive bookmarked to main screen and it always redirects me to the mobile site (m.thechive.com). i much like the full site as it displays much better and dont care much to scroll to the bottom everytime to hit the full site tab. thanks guys.

From what I've read on other threads this is a result of the website detecting what it believes to be a mobile device. There is nothing you can do on the PB. Some people have suggested if it's a site you visit regularly to send them an email letting them know what's happening.

I had a discussion on this matter with Network Solutions, a major host of websites. Their rep said, they have no present way to automatically redirect the user to the (mobile) m.**.com site. Sometimes the servers get 'confused' by your sent 'browser type' and send you to the 'wrong' site anyway.
The only thing that yo can presently do is to use a link on the main site > mobile site

it's a two fold issue, the browser agent is still seen as mobile because RIM hasn't done s**t to promote the browsers capabilities to key web sites and devs across the net and they are terrified to let us change the user agent to be seen as a desktop browser because their numbers would fall to near zero in the stats reports.

Just keep pummeling these crappy sites with PB traffic and eventually someone may wake up and provide PB's browser as a re-direct to full site user agent.

Same is actually happening on Honeycomb browser but you can change the user agent to reflect a desktop capable browser for sites that are too lame to know otherwise.

Most surprising culprit is CNBC.com where wall street crackberrry use was first born, one would think they would figure it out except most of the wall street boys are probably on to ios for tablets at this point.

A tip I found posted here was to bookmark classic.cnbc.com to get the full cnbc web site. Some links from the main page will still bring up the mobile version, just edit the url by putting in the classic prefix and you will get the proper page.

I'm not sure if you tried this and got it to work but when I do it I get the mobile site. I even tried it with your example of CNBC.

This is the url I use and it works, even when tethered to the phone.

Stock Market News, Business News, Financial, Earnings, World Market News and Information - CNBC

The CNBC Pro also works, but you need to pay. I don't know which software updated fixed it, but the live streams on CNBC Pro now work on the Playbook. I am at my cottage for the summer and CNBC is not on our cable here. I can get it but need to upgrade to a bunch of other services. It is cheaper for me to subscribe to the CNBC Pro for the the couple months I need it than to upgrade the cable. We have 20mbs cable here, so the streaming works well.
