Al Jazeera app down?
Is anyone experiencing trouble with the Al Jazeera app? I don't use it that regularly, but for the last few days it keeps telling me that I'm not connected to the Internet even though my wifi is working fine. I tried rebooting and reinstalling, but still have the same problem.
Perhaps it's related to the recent 2.0.1.668 update? - 08-15-2012, 02:34 PM #4
Al Jazeera app down?
For International TV a good site is wwitv.com. It has a couple of thousand stations from around the world. Go to google and key the above and it should be the first thing that comes up.
There are android apps for it but you don't need them. It's a free site that's been around since '98.
When on the site for Al Jazeera scroll down and select Qatar in the countries area on the left side. Choose the second or third red button and you'll get their English feeds.
When using the Playbook on this site the Red and Brown buttons will usually give you the station. The Black button will provide a link to one or more stations that are also usually available. The Blue and Green buttons are not available as they seem to use Microsoft's Silverlight which is not supported on the Playbook. You can always watch those on a computer. So, for the Playbook, you should still get several hundred of the 2,000 stations.
If you know any station that streams that isn't on the site then let them know. They used to have 3,000 channels.
Lastly, the site is only with two w's. wwitv.com which is World Wide Internet TV. If I could remember how to paste in a link I would have.Thanked by 2:David in Durham (12-11-2012), pronomad (08-16-2012)

Re: Al Jazeera app down?
Mine is working fine, except some hiccups with the live stream. This is the AIR version made for PlayBook. You can also use the phone version, which is pretty good (I hope they don't get rid of the handy rtsp streams in BB10 phones).

PlayBook 64Gb - 2.1.0.1314 (and another spare PB 64Gb)

Al Jazeera app back in action
This was one of my favorite apps, but I had given up on it after it stopped working a few months ago. Just checked again after reading that Z 10 is available in Qatar (where AJ is based) and that they are rolling out an AJ app for BB10, and it's back, including live streaming.
Let's hope it's fixed for good this time; I've really missed AJ when traveling. Now if only PB had apps for BBC, France 24, and Russia Today as well

I contacted Al Jazeera several weeks ago regarding this problem. They told me a new app was ready to be launched to correct the problem. About two days later, everything was fine and still is as of a few minutes ago. I suggest you email them. Their contact information is on the existing app or website.
