Adobe Reader Adds Free eSignatures Capability

Enhancements to Adobe Reader and Adobe EchoSign Allow Anyone to Electronically Sign and Send Documents Without Printing or Faxing

SAN JOSE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Adobe Systems Incorporated (NASDAQ:ADBE) today announced it is making eSignatures available to hundreds of millions of Adobe® Reader® users, adding greater flexibility for signing, sending and managing important documents, whether from a desktop, iOS, or Android mobile device. Through integration between Adobe Reader and Adobe EchoSign® eSignature service, users can gain real-time visibility into the signature process and status of contracts, giving end users the assurance that their signed documents have been received, can be easily organized and managed.

Available immediately, Adobe Reader X (version 10.1.3) for desktop offers new signature functionality with Adobe EchoSign that lets users choose how they want to electronically sign a document, either by drawing their signature or by adding a typed or cursive signature. Also available today is the latest version of Adobe Reader for mobile, which now lets users electronically sign a document by simply drawing their signature, making it easy to conduct business while on the go. The new capabilities for smartphones, tablets and desktops include:

Ink Signature Tool – Users can electronically sign a document by hand-drawing their signature with their finger on a touchscreen.
Send for Signature – Users can connect to Adobe EchoSign to get others to sign documents electronically, enabling senders to track and manage the status of documents online. In addition, signed contracts are archived in the cloud, making it easy for users to retrieve documents from anywhere, at any time, via a Web browser.

Adobe Reader for mobile also adds new features that let people interact with PDF documents directly from their iOS or Android devices. These include:

Annotate – Users can choose the Highlight, Strikethrough or Underline annotation tools, and drag over any text to easily markup text.
Comment – Users can add Sticky Notes anywhere on a PDF document. Just choose the Note tool, tap, and add the comment.
Forms Fill – Users can fill out simple PDF forms, save them, and forward them on to the recipient.

These new capabilities complement the wide range of features already available in Adobe Reader for mobile – including viewing PDF Portfolios, password-protected PDF documents and Adobe LiveCycle rights-managed PDF files; and opening and viewing PDF files from email, on the Web or from any application that supports the "Open In" function. The highly intuitive user interface provides an efficient PDF viewing experience regardless of the device.

Availability

Adobe Mobile Reader 10.2 is available free on the iOS app store and Google Play. Adobe Reader X (version 10.1.3) is also available for desktop download.

Why is this not surprising at all. The PB version of the reader sucks royally, it literally is only a reader.

Yeah i saw that. A friend suggested to me that no one wants to support blackberry any longer since blackberry already effectively suggested the playbook is dead

Don't know where your friend got that info. RIM has not suggested anything like that and is actually releasing a 3G/4G LTE playbooks (they are already in carrier testing)

i don't know what you want...Adobe READER, it should only be a READER...if you want the full version adobe should come out with acrobat for playbook and that should have all the features...but right now the READER is only a READER and I'm surprised on how many are surprised its only a reader considering its called ADOBE READER

Well considering my desktop adobe reader and other tablet adobe readers can at the very least search through a document, open secure pdfs, bookmarks, and open large files.





Especially, people who it for school and work. We have a right to ask for these features

I was content with the reader since no mobile platform allowed the ability to fill in pdf forms. I can only hope that this means it's just around the corner.

Now please explain to Adobe how they don't understand the limitations of their own product.

I had asked adobe about it before and the response seemed to hint at a "wait its coming" feeling. My main concern is #1 by ALL other platforms standards PC included the PB's is a piece of garbage. No search or Bookmarks makes it a deal breaker period. #2 RIM utilized Adobe Air and thus giving free promotion for Adobe and this is the thanks we get for supporting a device that is using their software???

Hopefully this is like Angry Birds Space where every OS was listed except PB yet we are getting it.

This is a no brainer, of course Adobe will prioritize the platform that has more users. Why do they have to care minorities like us?. Even Kayak app (I dunno how many of us consider that as a must have app) already dropped their support on the BB platform.

While I'd probably agree except adobe is the default reader to open pdfs through any file manager in app world.

Just loaded it on my iPad2, and it's a huge improvement. It would be literally make the Playbook 10 times more useful for me.

I don't know about your version of adobe READER for a computer but on my pc, adobe READER allows me to search for words. I can open more than one document at a time. There appear to be bookmarks. I can jump to a specific page.

The version on the pb READS but is missing all of those features.

When rim allegedly said they were quitting on the consumer market and focusing on business users.

Imo before they release new devices with the same old crap they should FIX what's wrong with their current product.. That includes making their developers unable to release garbage onto the marketplace and updating the firmware more regularly than they are. /rant over

Well, I'm pretty happy with Repligo so not in a hurry, but it would be nice if they would provide an update to their App since I can't uninstall it...

Yeah ive found repligo to be an excellent pdf reader, but I had to convert and sideloaded it, and if rim is getting rid of the sideload option then we might be royally screwed. I mainly got a playbook to read pdfs, and the search, bookmark and jump to Page features make it perfect for that purpose.
