We do use Netflix at our home but mainly for the kids since we dropped the DVD subscription when Netflix decided to separate the two services and raise the price. I might use the app if it was available but I would rather have an app that offers an easy way to rent/download movies rather than a streaming option. I am willing to pay for that ease of use/convenience. Hopefully the rumored app in OS 2.0 will offer that. The only time I want to watch a movie on my PB is while traveling.

Downloading is legal in Canada, seeding copyrighted material is not. What international copyright laws are downloaders breaking???

Nah, they're not too big or inconvenient: I've been travelling quite a bit in the last several months, and I see iPads everywhere on planes, trains, etc. etc.

Your comment only applies to people who feel the need to carry the PB with them at all times, if they happen to have clothing with somewhat oversized pockets.

Of course, some of us may look more approachable than others when it comes to off the cuff insults. Don't have that problem in person myself.

I save close to $80/mth not having cable and leech off my sister's Netflix and Hulu so that's good. in particular since I dislike current US programming and love older movies or quirky international stuff. I would like to get some of the specialty channels like Nat Geo or Smithsonian but that's impossible without the stuffing of 400+ useless channels.

I do wish Hulu were available in Canada (I am a temporary expat). As for Netflix, the Canadian content isn't bad as long as you like really bad low-budget horror flicks. It does have good BBC programming too.

Default playbook solutions

ive had the playbook for 2 months now, it was a gift at xmas. i have noticed that it has a full browser which eliminates the need for the there is an app for that phenomena. Most non productivity apps on ios and android are internet shortcut apps because ipad and android both not optimized for laptop quality browsing.

The playbook however functions much more like a windows based tablet would in that it has a full internet browsing experience such as tabbed browsing and multi tasking.

Solutions to netflix hulu issues are easy. Download splashtop to remote view netflix hulu etc just like u were watching it on computer. Alternatively use playon for like 30 a year does the same thing but web based.

Solutions are simple but you must keep open mind and before some of you say i dont want to buy splashtop or playon for 10-30 keep in mind u just paid 100's for ur tablet, hdmi requires no adapter unlike ipad and u dont need a data plan. Free video avail via crackle, youtube movies etc.

Cheers

"KNOWS HIS PLACE?" I can't believe you wrote that.

You suggest lodging a complaint on some offhand comments? Based on what the OP said, he wasn't even being insulting, just gabbing. Do you actually believe you are being fair to the barista, given that it seemed to be idle chatter?

"Here, why don't you give it a try? Or do you only know how to interact with i-devices?"
"No device is perfect. The Playbook has great features like X and Y and Z that Device N doesn't. See?"

Or does it make you feel bigger to respond the way you suggest and slide in a insult? BTW, why is everyone assuming the barista was talking about an iDevice since there is no specific mention in the OP?

I have never been a barista nor ever worked customer service but, man, this ticks me off.

ETA: Ok, iDevice seems to be implied from the thread title. Nonetheless, my comments stand. Flies with honey and all that.

My wife has a Kindle Fire with the Netflix app. We've never used it.

Default know his place is right

Barristas are an insufferable bunch. Typical barrista believes himself to have the soul of the avant garde artist when in reality he or she has the future and income of a service or retail employee. That samsung commercial is so funny because its so true.

I had Netflix at home and never really used it. Wouldn't mind getting streaming videos from news sights however. I have loaded training videos (in flv I might add) to watch, but watching TV on by PB?? - it's a tool not a toy.
The point where I really get into it with Ipad owners is over size/form factor. "Yours is so small" they say. Then I ask how often have they carried around a book vs how often have they carried around a binder when going out. Then I slip my PB into a pocket on my coat that fits it perfectly. End of discussion. To me the best feature of the PB is the size.

Netflix is worth the eight bucks a month for this young dad who uses it exclusively in my cable-free house to amuse and educate my toddler. Even in Canada, the kids' offerings are diverse and excellent. That said, I don't need Netflix on my PB as the little guy watches his shows on the big TV or my wife's iPhone 3GS.

I have to admit I may not have felt this way had I paid full MSRP for my 64GB PB, but as a beneficiary of the recent price slash I am thoroughly delighted. I do use the PB to watch video content on the go, indeed, but it's stuff I download, not streaming content. I find it excellent for that. The cheap Book Reader app is an excellent epub reader, so I have no need for a Kobo or Kindle now, and I don't have to fart around trying to figure out how to side-load epubs into the Kobo app. I am not a big game guy, but the few I have do delight--especially the Electronic Arts Monopoly for PB, which is well worth the 5 bucks. I am a "from my cold dead hands" BB phone user, and Bridge so far works very well for me, so I don't miss native email and calendars and all that. And I really do like the smaller size. especially for reading and watching video.

There are some things I would like to see, like true SMS and IM clients (GTalk, Yahoo, MSN, AIM) that work over Bridge as smoothly as Facebook does, but so far and I am thoroughly pleased and glad that I saved the money and got this in lieu of an iPad or Samsung Galaxy.

The nerve people have just approaching you and telling you that you made a bad choice deserves a punch in the face. These guys have nothing better to do except for putting other people down because they are insecure about themselves =.=

So when someone says something you don't like, the response is to hit them the face?

There are a great many ignorant things said these days, but advocating violence utterly takes the cake bro. Epic fail on your part.
