I was trying to load some stuff (movies, music, books, etc.) on my 16GB Playbook but after a very short while my PC stated that the hard drive was full. My computer states that there is only 2.23gb left and Files and Folders says 2.5gb.
This would be fine if there was stuff on my Playbook but there isn't. Three podcasts and that is it, no movies or pictures. I check the sizes of the files on my PC but nothing above 250mb showed up. So what is using up all the memory?
I tried a restart but that didn't help. I checked around the Playbook with Files and Folders without luck.
set up wifi sharing then browse the PB on your PC, it will show you the file size of each file so you can track down whatever it is thats causing this.
and if you cant and it says you have a ton of free space, you can drag and drop into apropriate folders and fill your PB up that way, thats how i have always done it.
I checked every file on my Playbook (videos, music, misc, downloads, etc.) through file -> right click -> properties via wifi sharing. None of the folders exceed 250mb...
Reading thru this thread, has me finally asking something I've wondered about earlier (not that it is likely the prob') but . . . . is there no Defrag' utility on a PB ?
Check in the settings to determine how many applications.
About -> General
You should see a list of how many applications, music, videos, pictures, documents, etc
If the numbers are matching up to what you have, there may be files somewhere that are lost or hidden?
Then check About->Hardware
It should show how much Free storage.
You can also try doing a security wipe which should just remove all data, files and applications so you would start fresh.
Do note that the OS takes around 1-2GB of the space so really you start off with closer to 14GB than 16GB.

Thanks OP for this thread !
Of course not, it uses flash memory for storage. Just like how you don't have to (/SHOULD NOT) defrag your SSD.
Each app has its own private folders that it can use to store data. For instance, a magazine app may download magazines to those private folders. The files in those folders can only be accessed by that app, not by a file manager and not via wifi file sharing.
When an app is removed its private folders are also removed. Assuming it's a downloaded app that is causing the problem and not a preinstalled app.
As far as I know there is no easy way to know how much storage space each app is using. You may be able to see something by examining a backup.
If you are using a PC, download WinDirStat and install it. Connect your PB to your PC and run WinDirStat. Select the drive that the PB is listed as. It will map all the files and directories on your PB which will include file size, date creation, % of space being used by that file and the folder it is in, etc. It's a great tool that I use at work.
