16GB 32GB or 64GB Playbook?
With the price of the Playbook being so reasonable, what do you folks out their recommend for a first time purchase? I would be using Playbook mainly for web browsing, email, text and basic office usage. Comments?

I also see there are some great bargains out there (especially with Best Buy and Amazon) for factory re-conditioned units. Has anyone had any negative experiences with the reconditioned units? I understand they don't have the same warranty as the new units. Correct? - 05-01-2012, 09:04 AM #2
Get the 64GB unit..........
Get the 64 GB unit. You WILL fill it over time, and you don't want that "cramped" feeling.
You'll load up you music files, throw a few movies on it when you travel to view on the plane, and plug into the Hotel room TV thru HDMI to watch your own movies, not the over priced one hotels charge.
Remember when you bought your first 4 cylinder car? Remember wishing you bought the 6, or 8 cyl.??????
You won't regret, I assure you.........
I know, I know, it sounds to much like "Trust me"..... but you will be HAPPY!

I think best buy has a 30 day warranty on refurbished units. I don't know how RIM deals with those. There was a post just recently where a member had RIM fix a refurbished unit.
I'm fine with 16g(net storage around 14.7g). More memory is never be a bad thing but unless you store a lot of media, it's not necessary. Videos especially take up a lot of space. - 05-01-2012, 09:07 AM #4
I just bought a PlayBook and I got the largest one I could afford...the 64. You will want to add a lot to your PB so I agree with the poster above. Get the largest you can afford.

Since the Playbook doesn't have many streaming options for video (and its wifi only at this point) I find that I directly load a lot of video onto my Playbook. Since I can't guess what type of movie I'll be in the mood for I end up putting a lot of movies on it -- so I appreciate the 64GB.

64GB hands down.

If you know you will not store many movies on it (or take tons of video) you don't need 64GB. However, if you do take tons of video, of your kids or family for example, then you will need at least 32GB. Keep in mind that there are several cloud storage apps that could provide you with 5-10 GB more.
At these prices I don't find refurbished units so compellling. Why not get a brand new one for a song.My BlackBerry. Just love it, love it, love it. - 05-01-2012, 10:32 AM #9

I purchased a 16gig unit because I did not wanted to get deep into a unit that everone on line (except crackberry) had negative remarks. I figured I could sell it on Ebay and come out fairly good if I hated it like so many on Youtube want you to believe.
Upon turning it on for the first time I fell in love with the unit.... I did not get the bad press, it had apps galore a great screen and the perfect size.
So my gamble to sell an old apple product on Ebay that turned out to basically be an almost swap price wise panned out. But the price was the only thing that was a swap, the Playbook turned out to be a far better unit than what I was lead to believe by youtube. (THANKS CRACKBERRY for changing my mind)
So now looking back I think that I should have went with at leased a 32gig because there are way to many great apps out there and I'm never giving this thing up.Last edited by kretch; 05-01-2012 at 10:41 AM. Reason: WRONG GIG AMOUNT ENTERED

Get the 64 GB!
I bought my 16 GB back in April of last year and after loading some games, music and about 6 movies, I found myself cramped for space. I gave my 16 to my wife and bought a 64 GB unit last Thanksgiving and I have not regretted it one bit.
I now have more games (some 500 mb ones), more music and 25 movies stored in the device for watching during travel/vacation and still have about 20 GB to work around with.
Get the 64 - you won't regret it!

If you can afford a 64gb unit, go for it. With just about everything being digital - photos, music, movies, documentation - you'll find plenty of content to fill it up.

I have the 16...get the 64 GB pb

Yeah I agree with everyone at these prices if you can go for the 64GB. I have the 16GB and it is not enough after awhile!...
Also I bought a refurbished unit here in Canada from Future Shop. I have bought refurbished before and had no problems what so ever but my playbook just died so I don't know if I would get refurbished again. But if you are worried about warranty, I called RIM and there was no problems so far, they are going to either fix it or send me a new one. I am just in the process of doing this so to me RIM has a good warranty with very little hassle and honor it. - 05-01-2012, 09:19 PM #22
I've had the 16gb for nearly a year now. Haven't filled it up. There is simply no need for me to dump lots of movies or music on it, as I have my Ipod for listening to music, and if I travel and want to watch a few movies, 16gb is plenty of space.

I owned a 32GB one and it's enough for me (some movies, lots of songs and games). However, if you plan to fill your PB with lots of HD movies, go for the 64GB one!
IMO, you should consider to wait a little bit more for 4G PB to see if the rumor is true and RIM will soon launch it, though. - 05-01-2012, 09:24 PM #24
i bought the 16 cause its what i could afford at the time... i havent even got it yet (tomorrow
) but i'm already kicking myself for not trying for the bigger one
