One thing to double check tha there is a MMS feature added to the account, I have had customers in the past that were unable to send/rec MMS and that was fixed by adding the MMS SOC, even though it is included with your SMS plan it doesn't always get turned on

Iroc-D, I have the exact same problem (with an unlocked 8220) that you at the start of this thread but with half of the technical know-how to try to fix this. You said that you got the MMS working before you got the Blackberry Data Plan. Can you explain how you did this? Thanks.

Chris.

Hello All-
New to the forums here at CB. I have been reading many places on the web about receiving picture messages on a blackberry without a data plan. I have the Bold and recently turned the data off simply because I didn't feel I used the web enough to justify its cost. I am in college so I am trying to save money where I can. Anyhow some of you have mentioned that a new OS has solved the problem? If this will solve it how do I go about doing this? Please let me hear your suggestions! I appreciate your help in advance.

Default MMS Solution for BB with no Data Plan

This is my first post here, but I wanted to share some great incite I received from a TMobile rep yesterday.

I have a 8100 Pearl and dropped the data plan some time ago. I called up to complain that I couldn't send or recieve MMS messages even though I had the text plan that includes MMS, in plan language.

She explained that a "feature" of blackberries (and other smartphones) is that they use the data network to send and receive MMS messages. If I had a regular phone like a Razor or such it would work just fine. (I complained some more). Then she told me they had a fix to make blackberries send MMS messages over the regular cell network.

A) You have to upgrade your device to at least 4.2.1 or later to take advantage of this. I had to upgrade and it went fine.
If you are tmobile you can get the latest from www . t-mobile . com / bbupgrade (Can't post the actual link, you'll have to fix it in your browser, really crackberry?)

You will have to install the latest desktop manager first. Tether your BB, backup your BB, then double click the exe for your upgraded BB OS. Your PC will reboot and install the new BB OS on your phone.

B) Once you have upgraded your phone, pull the battery and the SIM chip.
Reinsert the battery with no SIM chip (I know, but it worked!!)
Let the phone boot up fully.
Pull the battery.
Reinsert the SIM chip and the battery.

C) This process pushes the service books for MMS over to the cell network and off the BB data network.

It was that simple, now I can send/recieve MMS picture messages with no data plan.

Hope that helps explain why and how to fix it.

So If I already have the latest OS, this is all I have to do??
