    Default Still not sold on....

What up....Yeah....I think its great RIM is branchin out and developing new phones clamshell flip or whatever, but I still miss the idea of a candy bar Pearl.....I mean its a Pearl flip how about a newer Pearl like the javelin is to the curve , or [/I] the bold and the "storm".....cuz i really dont see the 8100 - 8120 being upgraded to a flip, makes no sense.....call me a die hard pearl fan or whutever, but we all know how the pearl really rocked the pda/smartphone community...I really dont want to see it die yet

The Pearl is not dying out! I believe that RIM just simply wanted to bring something different to the table. I honestly don't see it doing as well as the OG Pearl did. Just my opinion

I agree the pearl is a great device I dont think the new flip should be considered a pearl. it does look as if it could be a new series rather then a pearl. Well if thats what they want to do, I suppose we can not gudge them, they are blackberry

I never cared for the Pearl. When I bought the Curve I did it only to prevent purchasing the Pearl.

To me the Flip is nothing like the Pearl. But, having a flip BB has it's place. I for one would rather have a flip BB than an open face phone. Not everyone wants an open keyboard. I don't agree people who dislike the new Flip, what? RIM not have enough new phones coming out for everyone? Bold. Storm. Thunder. Javelin.

Present: iPhone 4, 9700 Bold, PlayBook
    Priors: Curve 8700, Flip 8220, Curve 8900, Tour 9630, iPhone 3GS.

No the Pearl is not dying out. They are actually making MORE colors of the original Pearl to come out and there will be MORE colors of the Pearl Flip. They will be two different phones for two different kinds of people. You really can't get rid of the original because not everybody wants a flip....but I LOVE my Flip over my original 8100

True.......But Im not interested in seeing more colors for the pearl......like the javellin it would be nice to see a pearl with a new 3.2 megapixel camera, or a sleek slimmer design with OS4.6.....or perhaps way of the Bold with a slightly faster proccessor and 3G....you know whut im saying...Its nice tghat the direction the the Pearl flip is going, taking away others to get into the clamshell market....i mean hey more power to 'em .... im not trying to sound whiney or complain...but all the new phones have creditable upgrades to the older models and the best the 8100 series gets is a snadstone pink, oand the array of colors for t-mo...Just food for thought.....

Here's a sumthin to think on...You guys think a pearl or new model do well like BBslide, pearl slide.....like the sprint rumor or LG chocolate..????????????

The OS is acutally 4.6.0.151 (T-Mobile)
I agree, a faster processor is always nice.
As far as the colors, it's a brand new phone. I'm sure they'll have ones in different colors soon.

Now that the Pearl is a Flip, or a Flip version of it...when your on speaker phone, does the phone gotta stay open while on it? or can you use speakerphone with it closed?????????

I just tried this out. The speaker works with the phone closed. I never tried this before due to I use a BT headset.

Why are heck are you whining on these boards? If you don't like the Flip you don't like the Flip. We don't control what RIM designs, builds, etc. Yes, you are whining over something that has nothing to do with your phone. The flip phone for BB is a new direction and has nothing to do with what you want. Why not go and whine on the Bold or Storm board?

Just because this phone is labeled as a Pearl doesn't mean anything. If you're into the current open face Pearl then you should whine on that board. Don't bring down the Pearl Flip just because you didn't get some upgrade you feel you deserve.

How did you get the speaker to work with the phone closed? I tried this other day and it ended my call. I opened it up, called my voicemail, put the call on speaker, then closed the phone and it ended.

Sorry about the double post. But BBB how did you get this to work? I tried it out the other day and it ended my call. I opened the phone, called my voicemail, put the phone on speaker, and closed the flip and it ended my call.

Man I feel stupid. I tried this again and it didn't work. Earlier this morning I did this on my work phone and I thought it was working. Had a brain fart I guess...

it is only a step back in your opinion. for some people this is the perfect device, mixing the convenience of a flip phone with the power of a blackberry... and is isnt going to be a big flop like the HTC 3125

Yes I hear you, but you can't come into this forum bad-mouthing the Flip because they are TWO DIFFERENT PHONES. The Pearl Flip IS NOT MADE FOR EVERYBODY. It's just an expansion for people who love flips so Blackberry RIM took that and ran with it. Honestly, I loved my Pearl 8100. But I honestly am initially liking my Flip better than when I first got my Pearl two years ago. 1. Because I love flip phones. Yes, they are adding more colors of the Pearl, and honestly right now the Pearl ISN'T the same phone right now. They've added video capture, wi-fi, and different color options. To be honest I believe there will be a new numbered Pearl that will be slimmer and have a different look and maybe a higher megapixel camera....once they are done producing the colors they want for the Original Pearl.

As for the Javelin/Curve 2 a T.Mo rep said they are looking to have those at the beginning of next year...but like BBB always says don't trust a rep as far as you can throw them because it took T.Mobile a while to get the Curve the last time (although I don't think it exceeded 6 months), but with AT&T getting the Bold and Verizon getting The Storm first and T.Mobile getting the Flip 1st I couldn't tell you who would get the Javelin/Curve 2 first. The rep also told me that they are planning to get the Storm...but the name will be changed to either the Bold or Thunder. I said how confusing when there's already a Bold out on another service and all other Blackberry's universally have the same name, so I'm thinking it will be called the Thunder...but there was no time frame of when, they said 6-9 months, or a few months after the Javelin/Curve 2. So, yeah, you can take this information however you want lol.

As for the speakerphone I can only utilize the speaker with the flip OPEN. I am currently on hold with Blackberry, I called T.Mobile's Blackberry department and they couldn't answer it so they transferred me directly to Blackberry about this issue to see if you can. I'm also trying to find out if you can change profile's and utilize the camera (making the outside LCD an "image viewer" to take self portraits). So, I'll update with another post once I'm off the phone with them. Rats, he didn't know, he's transferring me to a "specialist" lol.

It would be nice to see your portrait in the front LCD. Not sure if any OS upgrades would fix this or if it's a hardware issue.

I just had a funny thought. Imagine gluing one of those round concave car side mirror thingys to your Flip...LOL.

Don't laugh, the non-flip Pearls have a mirror like that! It's just really small.

im 99% sure it is something that can be added to the software, the 1% is me not knowing what angle the camera is in
