Default Numbers become letters, wife unhappy

When my wife tries to dial a new number on her Pearl Flip 8200, the numbers often convert to letters before she can finish dialing. This is very frustrating. Is there a way to turn off this "feature"? The phone seems to forget that it is first and foremost a phone.

[There was an unresolved thread about this back in 2008, but I'm posting this query anyway, in hopes that somebody has some insight to share.]

    Thanks.

Typically it does this for me if I hit a wrong key and hit a key that is not a number. For example the op key etc. Watch her type and are if this could be the issue.

when this happens delete untell the number shows back up and than continue entering the number. also when the first letter pops up, a drop down menu that shows the number and she can scroll down and select it, hope this helps, cheers.
