Different carriers sometimes release different versions, but the only thing carrier specific is the vendor.xml file. If the OS is for an 8230, it will work with ours on Telus, or on Bell. It is strange that we can't load this new version (284) yet.

Did anybody ever get this to work on Verizon? I've tried a few of the things listed in this thread, but DM never prompts me to install a new o/s...

make sure your internet connection is turned off while you update. It will automatically look for a Verison update as opposed to the one you have. Always works for me

ok so a co-worker just got a Flip Pearl from Verizon and wanted me to set it up for him. I was going to upgrade that thing from .234? to .236, o downloaded "8230mAMEA_PBr4.6.1_rel422_PL3.3.0.92_A4.6.1.284_A lltel.exe" installed it, deleted the vendor file, unplugged from the net just in case, wiped the phone to the 507 error, opened up Loader.exe and nothing was detected. So i loaded .234 back and its giving me issues, i cannot save profile settings such as volume settings, i cannot use mp3's as ring tones, it will not even change ring tones. Media player works fine at first, goig back to play an mp3 it gives me a media player error and does not play anything...did i installed a corrupted OS? Is there a Hybrid for this Pearl thing, How have you guys managed to installed the above file on your Verizon Flip?
Much appreciated guys.

I installed this version (4.6.1.284) on my US Cellular 8230. Works fine. In fact, after installing it, I had about 2 meg more memory which I can't explain. All the same apps and data are there as before the upgrade.

.236 worked fine for me too. Other than the above memory gain, I can't really tell what else changed though.

AppLoader wouldn't see it either for me. But for some reason, DM did. Oddly enough, I have to use AppLoader to add/remove apps.

I am using DM 5.0 without the auto-update feature installed. I made sure there wasn't a vendor.xml buried somewhere in my user dirs (there was at one point). Then I disable my network on the PC and start DM (once the upgrade process starts, I can start my network back up though).

I also installed .284 on my US Cellular flip and all is good except that my outside display is just white when I close it, and doesn't register when receiving a call or message.
Did I do something wrong during the install? All seemed to go through perfectly. In options, the Enhanced external display item isn't there??

Thanks for any help!

I just plugged the phone to my PC and it asked me if I wanted to upgrade, clicked yes and about 20 minutes later good to go. Haven't noticed much of a difference. I like having the "now playing" option from any menu when I'm listening to tunes.

In the 6 weeks since I upgraded to 4.6.1.284, I've had two "523 Reset" errors, and two random reboots. My feeling is that it's related to the OS since I really didn't add anything else new at the same time. In the device log, just before the reboot, there is an IOException. Which might make sense because in two of the cases (that I can remember), it was accessing something over the internet.

In all cases, once the device rebooted, everything was OK. I don't plan on downgrading. I'll just wait for the 5.0 release and move forward.
