Default I almost love this phone

It's almost perfect. I have a few gripes. When I decide to replace this phone, I'm not sure what I'll do. I may just go back to a regular, non-smartphone. But the browsing, messaging, and informational capabilities are nice and I've become accustomed to them.
I would definitely stick with the pearl flip if RIM put a faster processor in it. Probably my only real substantial complaint. I also wish the camera lens wasn't recessed so that it collects lots of lint in it, but not really a big deal.

I can't find any other phones on the market that meet my needs. My requirements for a smartphone:
1. Must be clamshell design. Personal preference. I will not own any phone that isn't a clamshell.
2. No touchscreens. I absolutely detest touchscreens. Again, personal preference. I will not own one.
3. Small enough to comfortably carry in my pocket.
4. It must not have anything to do with Steve Jobs or Apple. I will never own an apple product.

I know, I'm choosy. As far as I can tell, the pearl flip is still my best bet. At least with Verizon. I wish HTC would come out with a clamshell droid, or that Blackberry would just put a better processor in theirs.

I feel similarly. I'll probably go with the Pearl 3g when I replace the flip, because I like Blackberries (and run my own BPS), but I love the Flip's lack of "posterior dialing" and (relatively) large screen size.

You might want to look at the 9670 (I don't like it because the keys will likely be too small).

I too have the love/hate thing for my flip. If RIM hadn't felt the need to hamstring it with a low-end processor, i'd stick with it all the way. Now they've decided to scrap the 8220 altogether and have come out with the 9670 with a full qwerty keyboard that I can't in a hundred years imagine will be good to type on. Frustrating i'm sorry to say.

I too like the flip design but don't like the new 9670 BB is going to launch soon. It doesn't have a SureType key board like the pearl flip. I might end up with a dumb phone again!
