My husband lost his new BB so we bought one off a friend, a 8230.. The only problem he has is the background for SMS makes it almost impossible to read the messages. It looks just like the display for playing songs, except with messages over it.. (???) I have no idea how to change it.. I've spent an hour trying. Please help if possible! Thank you!

Have you tried switching to a different theme? Options->Theme

Try to reload OS which will reset the phone. Do a backup before you reload OS.
