Edit Custom Word List (not custom dictionary)
8220 running OS 4.6
Have searched high and low and cannot find any info on this. How do I edit the Custom Word List (database name: CustomWordsCollection) that SureType creates? I have numerous misspelled and garbage words in there. (Note that this a completely separate list from the custom dictionary list.)
This thread [forums dot crackberry dot com/f86/autotext-dictionary-229646] addressed the issue but did not come up with a means of editing the CustomWordsCollection database.
Using Desktop Manager, I exported the database as an ipd. I can look at the ipd with Amber Blackberry Converter (ABC), but I do not see a way to actually edit it. ABC will edit contacts and other databases, but not the CustomWordsCollection (best that I can tell).
I opened the ipd in Notepad++, which gave me some ability to edit it, but the file structure of an ipd is rather complex. It was clear enough how to correct a misspelled word, but not at all clear how to remove an entry, as there are a tremendous number of leading and trailing characters surrounding each entry.
Seems odd that there wouldn't be a way to edit this. - 12-01-2009, 06:32 PM #2
brainwash SureType's learned words
I had all sorts of garbage in mine because SureType memorized every typo I didn't fix over the course of a year. And my Custom Dictionary was empty. I never found a way to edit the Custom Words Collection, but I found a way to erase it. If necessary add an entry to the Custom Dictionary, then clear the Custom Dictionary. The Custom Words Collection will get cleared as well.

hi guys,
to get rid of the custom word collection just go to options -> lenguage, -> input options. and uncheck all the options there, it may sound stupid but
1- your phone will not lag typing
2- it will still predict your words better (in my opinion) if you are used to always type all the letters of the word.
im so happy right now i was getting frustrated of the input lag of this phone. give it a try like that and you will notice the diference. - 01-15-2010, 01:23 PM #4
Thanks hubermania
I have had that same problem since I "upgraded" my old Pearl to the Flip. At first I thought SureType was the greatest thing since the full keyboard became available on phone but its been frustrating the **** outta me. I was about to post a new thread and saw your response. Tried it and worked great. Thanks

Hi, I'm a Gemini owner surfing for info on the Flip (because I want a new blackberry) and read your thread. On my 8520 I go to Options/Spell Check. And it gives me the option to check, edit and even delete words. Hope your Flip has it too!
