Crash while updating software

I have searched crackberry forums, googled many different ways ... but I am at a lost.

I got my sister's old bb flip and i went to update the software. In the middle of doing that it froze. Got "screen of death". I managed to get the software re-loaded onto the phone... but then problems start.

1) I cannot dl Blackberry appworld or anything else from the blackberry.com site specifically. I get the msg "page cannot be display as requested".
I can however, dl the USA today app no problem.
2)BBM was not on the phone when I put the software back on it. It was on the desktop manager in the application section so I put it on there. It does not work. I try to add people but they never get the msg. So I deleted it and then tried to put it back on the phone. Same problem.

What can I do?

I see my post has gotten views, but no replies.

Well, I updated the BBM to 5.0. Still does not work!

From what I have read, you can't update the OS to 5.0 on the flip. I am using 4.6. When I re-installed the OS I went through the Rogers version on the blackberry site. Is there one I could use that may fix my big issues?
