Default Cannot create contacts

I seem to have a problem with my 8220 as I cannot create/save any contacts.
I am reluctant at this stage to upgrade the software as the phone is unlocked and a previous upgrade with my old Nokia caused the phone to lock back to the old provider.
I have tried copying all contacts from my sim and this does not work either.
Please help

Open the contact list, click Menu->Filter, and make sure none of the categories are checkmarked.

If that doesn't work, could you explain the steps you are using to create a contact, and what messages you see on the phone when it doesn't succeed?

Adding an entry to BlackBerry Contacts:
  1. Double-click the Contacts icon
  2. Click "Add Contact:"
  3. Fill out contact info for Foo J. Bar
  4. Click Menu->Save
  5. Observe new contact Foo J. Bar in BB Contacts list

Adding an entry to the SIM card:
  1. Double-click the Contacts icon
  2. Click Menu->SIM Phone Book
  3. Observe SIM contact list is displayed
  4. Click Menu->New
  5. Fill out name and phone for Foo J. Bar
  6. Click Menu->Save
  7. Observe new contact Foo J. Bar in SIM list

Hi, thank you for your reply.
The problem I had was the phone would not save a contact at all.
In the end I did a software downgrade which has sorted out all the problems.
All I need now is to know how to assign a tone to a SMS arrival.
Thanks again

Default SMS tone

1) Scroll to and Click on the profile icon (a little speaker usually at the top left of the screen)
2) Scroll to and Click on "Advanced" on the bottom of the list
3) Click on the Blackberry button
4) Scroll to and select "edit"
You will now see a long list on different items associated with the Profile you are editing.
5) Scroll to "SMS Text" and click on it
6) The 1st thing you will see is "out of holster" with the word NONE next to it, Click on NONE (I believe none is the default option)
7) Scroll to one of the options you decide to use (Tone, Vibrate, or Tone & Vibrate) and click on it. (It is now set to make a Notification sound)
The next line down will take you to a menu to change the type of tone or ringer being used for SMS, and you can continue through the menus untill it's the way you want it to be.
8) Lastly click on the Blackberry button and select "Save"

Remember you have six different profiles, and when you switch to a different one you need to repeat the above untill you have your settings the way you want in that profile.

Good luck, take your time, and have fun learning about your phone, I did, and still am
