Blackberry Pearl Flip 8220 in 2014
Let me preface this by saying that I've been using an iphone 4 for a couple of years (for work), and own a pre3 and a lumia 520.
So I bought a refurb pearl flip on eBay and it's the bomb!
I realize I just entered 2008 with that statement, but I love this phone. The word prediction software is effective and intuitive, I've figured out how to load OTA apps, and the phone has two features I always look for: a user-replaceable battery and micro SDHC. The music player just works and the audio is phenomenal. It took a while to index my 20+ GB of music mind you I've never cared for the iPhone's audio, and this is on par or better than my sansa clip with rockbox.
Is anyone else still using one of these? Is the sound on the new blackberries as good? I'm now eye-ing bold 9900s and Q10s on eBay.

Ha! A Pearl was my first Smartphone of any sort - I loved it too. IMO the audio is still as good on my Z10, though they don't still have the EQ modes they used to.

Well, I can now report that the audio on the Bold 9900 doesn't hold a candle to the Pearl flip. I'm sorely disappointed, since in all other respects the 9900 is a great phone. I think that the 9900 audio COULD be really good, if it had a graphic equalizer, since you can hear that it has a great range in the presets. None of them is just quite right, though.

The 8230 was the my first BlackBerry man did I love that phone. It was such a power house back in the day. I remember all my friends were jealous of the 2mp camera on it . Boy does that bring me back to the days when BlackBerry was on top.

Soooo.... I went all through the house, dug up six different sets of IEMs (headphones), and voila! A really cheap set of Sony's sound spectacular with the Bold. I don't know the model number, but they were about $15 at Future Shop last year. I guess if you're looking for headphones for a Bold 9900, start with Sonys.
This post is so in the wrong place. Oh well.
