8220 doesn't ring

It doesn't ring when I have another application open, like UberTwitter, Blackberry Messenger, or the web browser. The music player if it's open to "Now Playing" it won't ring but if I scroll back to the start up screen it will ring when the music player is on.

I have pulled the battery.
I have checked to see if phone is set to "Do Not Disturb"- it is set to No.

Is this really the way this phone is supposed to work? Do all Blackberries do this?

Or is this just a quirk with this phone in particular?

what os version are you running? did you upgrade your os to at least your carriers official os update?
