Default 8220 cannot load OS using multiple approaches

Hello all,

I am a long time lurker of the site and love all the amazing information that can be found here! This is my first time having a real issue with my phone so I thought I would post here and see if anyone has any ideas.

I tried to update my Wife's 8220 to the ComCell firmware by removing the vendor.xml and running AppLoader. Well I ended up with a JVM error (can't remember exactly which one). After this error, trying to load any OS using desktop manager or AppLoader always ended after a few files were copied - the phone would restart and the loading software would fail with a retry/cancel box.

Using the AppLoader wait for pin and press next trick worked to get the phone in a state where I could connect with JL_cmder and wipe. After that, I used a batch script to load all of the COD files one by one. I found that after loading net_rim_cldc.cod the phone would go into a long reboot cycle (5 mins. or more). I believe cldc is the OS loader but am not quite sure.

So then I tried by loading all files except cldc, running a JavaLoader dir on the device to ensure all 771 were there. Then I copied the cldc cod, restarted and held my breath - nothing. I ended up with the same 5 long reboot cycle and unable to connect with JL_cmder, mcp or anything else.

I have read a lot of threads about this, but all of them seemed to be resolved by one of the above techniques. Does anyone here have any ideas?

Thanks,
Stephen

Have you tried a different OS file?

Yes I have also tried the latest Rogers supported OS, same thing, reboots after almost every file. I use the batch file to load all files individually, goes into reset loop after loading cldc (makes no difference if I load them alphabetically or load them all except cldc and load that last). I have tried this with sim in, sim out, multiple battery pulls etc. It takes about 6-8 hours to run through all of the files and I have done it 4 or 5 times over the past few days!

Thanks,
Stephen

Default Solved - 8220 cannot load OS using multiple approaches

I managed to get the OS loaded however I do not necessarily recommend my approach. I ended up doing an oven reflow: 7 minutes @385F. OS load proceeded as normal after that, unfortunately bluetooth is still not working.

Avoiding this approach at all cost, Slombard. Did you ever manage to find a successful result without this approach?

sonoboy, I think because this is a pretty old post, December 2010, you may not get an answer from the original OP. You might try reposting with a lot more information and see if someone can help.

What is your problem, reloading software error, 507, 521, etc.

What have you read, or tried to this point. Tell everything. replaced sync cable, tried different USB port, battery pull after reload error, tried reloading via DM, tried reloading directly from computer, etc.

Let everyone know what has happened after you have done these things, and where you stand now with your problem.

If you repost with a lot of info, more people will have greater insight into your problem.

BTW I agree, throwing your phone into the oven has got to be the last ditch effort, before the garbage can.
