Will a theme made for a BlackBerry Bold work on a Pearl?

No it won't.

Themes are made for specific devices and for specific OS's on those devices.

But look carefully at a developer's theme. They may offer a version for the Pearl too. Although it seems that less than half the themes out there have versions for the 81xx series.
