Why I'm STICKING with the Pearl
- First let me say that, while I am a frequent lurker, I seldom post. I do check in most nights and read the day's posts that interest me, but I can't really add anything to the conversations, since I'm still somewhat of a "newbie".
I got my first BB back in mid-May, the silver Pearl 8130 from Verizon (they have the best coverage in my area). To the best of my recollection, they didn't have the Curve at the time - I believe Verizon got it no more than 2 weeks after I got my Pearl. As a lurker, I read lots of posts on here about the Curve - how great the Curve is, and "get a Curve, you'll never regret it." Well, it finally started to get to me. After work today, I drove 30 miles to the Verizon store. I knew I would have to pay full price, but the Pearl is still in pristine condition, and I still have the enV that I upgraded from, so I figured I could sell them both on eBay and get back what I would pay for the Curve ($429, since it's not upgrade time for me). I played with the display Curve for no less than 45 minutes off and on. I really wanted to like that phone, because it's got a bigger screen, more memory, and the full QWERTY keyboard, but alas, it was not to be. I came to the Pearl from the enV, and, while the enV flips open to a full keyboard, I mostly used the 12 keys on the front and T9 to text, so SureType really was not a problem, but more of a step up for me. I could NOT type on the Curve's keypad. I tried. I sucked, I got frustrated. I walked away and came back. I tried, I sucked worse! I even got the salesman to get me one out of the box, since the display unit had that huge security thing stuck to the back, and I thought I could do it better if I held just the phone without the "security bungee". I guess I have short, fat fingers, because I kept hitting two keys at one time, and my right thumb struggled to reach the keys on the far left side (being able to one-hand text when I want is important to me).
So to sum up, I am sitting here tonight no longer a tiny bit envious of the Curves, but one happy Pearl owner! Viva la Pearl!!07-25-08 08:55 PMLike 0 - It honestly took me a while to get used to the full qwerty keyboard of the curve, and it took me even loger to be fully convinced to purchase one. As with all things new, you must give yourself time to become acclimated. Glad you're happy wth your pearl, but the curve aint all bad.
Posted from my CrackBerry at wapforums.crackberry.com07-25-08 08:59 PMLike 0 - No no, I'm sure you love it, and I'm glad! But for me, I don't think I could get used to it because of my thumbs. I got home tonight and was replying to an e-mail (on my Pearl of course!), and I realized how fast and comfortable I had gotten with SureType and the keyboard. I wish I had more memory, but I'll just have to be vigilant about that.
Anyway, I guess I was just announcing to the Pearl forum that I've lost my tiny bit of regret that I didn't wait for the Curve, and fallen COMPLETELY in love with my shiny Pearl!Last edited by newsome; 07-25-08 at 09:07 PM. Reason: @Jenaywins!

- Hey, if the camera works on the official 4.5 OS for the pearl, I may stick with it too fam! I was planning on upgrading to the Bold (as soon as they release it - fortunately for me, I AM eligible for an upgrade ) but with gas prices and hard times, I may just keep the pearl instead. They are very user-friendly and still have all the BlackBerry perks. YEAYA!!
