1) Is trackball deformation common? I've had my Pearl for about a week but I noticed that the trackball is now kinda lumpy, like an egg shape. Should I just replace the trackball?
2) How do I make Desktop Manager install the latest firmware?! I just wiped (like, OS deletion) my Pearl and want to install 4.5.0.89 (I did delete vendor.xml), but it doesn't work.
I get this screen in the Desktop Manager: minimumtempo.com/jing/2008-11-20_1636.png and I click Next and get this: minimumtempo.com/jing/2008-11-20_1638.png
I did remove the desktop software thing for 4.5.0.77, so how do I fix this problem?

I use crackmem also now but if I suggest or tell someone how to upgrade I like them to know all they can. I cannot see the icon because it is just words so I cant help you with that. What does the icon look like?
