Trackball replacement question.
My trackball did the (in)famous "won't scroll to one side" muck-up and so I pull it out to fix it by scraping the gunk off of it. In the process I completely snafu'ed it by both breaking the flimsy tabs AND losing one of the rollers.
I'm just going to get a new assembly and ring from eBay for like $1.00. There are DOZENS from Hong Kong, dirt cheap. But here is my real question:
Under the trackball and its housing is a little metal thimble/dome/nipple/"button" that sets on a translucent golden square. I completely lost that. Is that important? Is it just responsible for the audible click NOISE / feel or does it need to be there for the button to WORK?
(Also: Can I just hit the enter key instead?) If the trackball will let me scroll my items, that's all I care about honestly, I'm up for a new phone in October anyway.
Right now I have to pop my contact list with the left side-button, hammer gibberish to send an email to a non-working email addy for it to drop me into my SMS/email inbox just to check messages-- so ANYTHING will be an improvement.
At anyrate, let me know, thanks!
