I read this thread, but I don't have a data plan right now, so I can't listen to streaming audio. Is there a way or an 3rd party app that will allow me to listen to "regular" fm radio?

Well crap! Oh well, I guess 8 gigs of mp3s should be sufficient.

You can transfer your music to the SD card in the desktop manager on the computer. Then you just open the media player on your BB and start playing your music. Works pretty good.

Not necessarily a lot of down time, I just like my music. I have what you would call a very sophisticated musical palate. I will have a little bit of nearly everything; Rock, Hard Rock, Alternative Rock, Classic Rock, Pop, R&B, RAP, Dance, Country, Classic Country, Christian, Classical, New Age, World, Instrumental ... I think that pretty much covers it.
