No, they're just emails. If I send an email from my gmail account (either on my phone or from a computer) it automatically shows up in my bb inbox as a new message. It's VERY annoying.
There's been an issue with gmail accounts doing that. There's multiple threads around here on how to fix that, more than likely in the storm forum, but I'm sure a search would be able to help you find the fixes.
