Is there anyway to avoid the prompt when putting the blackberry into sleep mode. so i can just hold the mute button down for 2-3 seconds and it goes right to sleep?

It's got to do with the programing in the OS. If you upgrade to the latest ( see sticky at top of this forum) it will fix this issue.
