Just got my wife the 8130 and the sales people at Alltel told me she NEEDED a card to keep the phone working well. said it handled overflow on txt and email etc.

I did not but their card as I had a few 2G cards at home . dropped it in, and it is seen by the phone. I formatted it in the phone.

    Now what?

What is the purpose of the card other than to store mp3s and videos etc. can I move contacts or other things there. does she really NEED the card?

You can store media (videos/ music). Not your contacts. It keeps your phones memory from being taken up by a lot of media files.

As already stated you can store media on the card. So pics, ringtones, etc. can be stored...apps and contacts cannot. Yes if you have pics stored on the device memory you can move them to the card.
