Pearl 8130 OS v4.5.0.127 Problems!
- I received an email from RIM yesterday telling me my 8130 had an update available. I went to their online upgrade site, and upgraded it to v4.5.0.127. It seems to have a huge memory leak. Also, when the phone sits out, and the screen goes dark, it takes several seconds to wake up when a button is pushed.
Has anyone else d/l this update, and if so, are you having any problems. In addition, is it possible to downgrade back to a previous version of the 4.5 OS?
Thanks!01-28-09 08:56 AMLike 0 -
- I have no link. I clicked a link in the email from [email protected] titled "New software update available for your BlackBerry smartphone." that took me to BlackBerry - Update your Device Software. I then clicked 'Check for Updates' on that site. It started up a stripped down version of Descktop Manager. It listed listed the version I had, and this new one, which it showed as preferred. I selected it, and the rest is history.01-28-09 11:58 AMLike 0

- I haven't used this site before, is it possible that this update is tied directly to your PIN? i.e. since the other posters were Sprint users, and Sprint hasn't come out with an official 4.5, that they were linked to whatever Sprint's latest official version is (4.3.xxx)? Maybe US Cellular has a new official version available.
I don't have time to check this tonight, I'm on Verizon and I'm curious...
Anyway, to answer the OP's question about whether you can downgrade, yes, do a search for 4.5.0.89 or 4.5.0.97 for 8130 and follow the instructions there.01-29-09 05:00 PMLike 0 - I went threw all the downloads on the
BlackBerry Desktop and Device Software Download Sites
And checked all the North America Carriers and none of them have that specific OS
So a direct Link to the download definitely help out01-29-09 05:09 PMLike 0 - http://promisedesigns.net/upgrade.jpg
When I go to RIM's upgrade site (Per the email I received), these are the choices I receive (See image in link above). I'm downgrading back to v4.5.0.77 as we speak. Too many bugs in the other.01-29-09 05:28 PMLike 0 - BlackBerry - Update your Device Software
Using firefox you cannot access the The Web Based Application Loader so you must use IE.. Still no update for me on the Sprint 813001-29-09 05:47 PMLike 0 - I haven't used this site before, is it possible that this update is tied directly to your PIN? i.e. since the other posters were Sprint users, and Sprint hasn't come out with an official 4.5, that they were linked to whatever Sprint's latest official version is (4.3.xxx)? Also, I'm noticing no memory leak like previous version - 4.5.0.89. I started out around 17mb after upgrade yesterday morning and I'm at aprox 15mb this morning. I haven't turned off or did a battery pull since i upgraded my phone.
Also, DM prompted me that there was a update that's how i got itLast edited by RockAndRollAcdc; 02-12-09 at 06:30 AM. Reason: fixed wording

Downloaded 177 from my carrier (Bell Mobility) and as far as I know, 127 is the same as 177. In any case, I just downloaded it so that I can now send MMS but holy ****... this is the worst version so far. Memory hog like mad and incredibly slow! I also noticed that it takes like 2 seconds for the back light to come back on after pressing a button. If you check the 'options --> status' screen, part of the text is cut off at the end. I'm sure I'll find many more problems as I use it. What in the hell? Why would RIM release this POS? I mean come on... sort this crap out already.03-11-09 03:31 PMLike 0 - Ya I did the bell download for .127 and it is quite slow when pressing the back light just thought it was my phone guess not ... Hopefully bell comes up with another update to fix it also notice my sms is quite slow loading up too..

BlackBerry Handheld Software v4.5.0.188 (Multilanguage)
Package Version: 4.5.0.188
Consisting of:
* Applications: 4.5.0.131
* Software Platform: 3.4.0.25
* File name: 8130uAMEA_PBr4.5.0_rel188_PL3.4.0.25_A4.5.0.131_Sp rint.exe
* File size: 87.1MB03-11-09 04:44 PMLike 0 - I got 4.5.0.127 as a bell customer as well. Vast improvements over the 4.3 I was running. Memory leaks are no where near as bad with 127.
Yes, waking the device up sucks.
You can see the image one the lcd long before the back light comes on.
A friend was using a previous 4.5 version for bell. He tried 127 and went back after about a day.
They changed too much stuff for him.
For me, its an improvement from 4.3.
Its a take or leave it update, so it seems.
I only have to reboot once or twice a week now for memory leaks.
Not every day.
(When my weather app would try to update and there was no signal due to being deep inside a building, that would be it. My BIS would be hosed. Reboot!)
