New Blackberry key failure when texting

I just bought a brand new Blackberry Pearl 8120 on Ebay. I love the phone. However, I am having problems with "c v" key failure when texting, as well as with the number 7 when dialing. I tried shutting the Blackberry off and removing the battery, as I thought a reboot may correct the issue.

Has anyone else had problems with this? Is there a simple fix, or is this a hardware problem?
