Ever since I've got the replacement pearl and installed apps my phones been hanging a lot when opening apps and things like voice dialling and gets stuck and I have to wait or restart my phone. Is something wrong with my phone? Another replacement? Help, thanks.

its sounds like low memory check and see how much free memory that you have. do a battery pull with the phone powered on take the battery out for about 30 seconds and then reinstall the battery and see if that helps.

How much memory should I have? and reinstalling the battery whilst on, does that wipe the handheld? or what does that do?

Hi bonoz. 9mb of free space is getting quite low and might be a reason that your are experiencing your problems. Take a look at this thread by forum moderator Reed and see if you can free up some more space.

what should be the minimum amount of free space you should have?

General concensus around here is 12,000,000 bytes or 12mb. Below that and funny things might start happening. Take some time and do the memory optimization procedure suggested. It's not that hard.

Ok so mine is running super slow. I've done the memory recommendations and the battery pull. Everthing from sending a messege to moving from icon to icon on the home screen. Any ideas? This is driving me batty!

Do you have a memory card? If not it is something you may want to get. Put all your pics, music, and downloaded ringtones on it. After doing the optimizations and battery pearl what is your free memory? Do you have facebook? It is a cause of memory loss.

Yes, I have a memory card. Everything is on there. I have about 18kb free. Yes, I use the facebook app.

I know there's info out there somewhere that will convert this for me, but I'm too lazy to look it up -- how does 44049 kBytes convert to "bytes"?

Try deleting facebook and myspace. They are the culprits.

    # 1 byte = 8 bits
    # 1 kilobyte (K / Kb) = 2^10 bytes = 1,024 bytes
    # 1 megabyte (M / MB) = 2^20 bytes = 1,048,576 bytes

you have 44,049 bytes which is not good! = about 44kb(kilobyte)

The minimum you need to have (file free) is at least 12,000,000 bytes which = 12MB(megabyte)

I hope this helped out some.

Facebook is less of a memory leak than myspace. Another thing to remember, is to make sure you're closing your applications by selecting the blackberry key, and then close instead of just hitting the end key. You should only have five applications open (phone, BB messenger, home screen, browser, and messages) open when you select blackberry button->switch application from your main application page.

I was leaving Myspace and Facebook running. I guess they were updating on a regular basis. So i closed the Myspace application and it seems to be running a bit better. And yes, i always close out my applications.

The nice thing about the myspace and facebook apps is that you don't need to have them open in the background to work.

Don't get those apps. Why so you can respond to your messages as quickly as possible?

Well, as someone who uses facebook as a means of communication in my field of work (I work with college students) yes, I do need to respond to the messages more quickly. What's wrong with the apps anyway?

    Well that I can understand.

But responding 'promptly' to my messages just wouldn't seem cool enough.
