My Storm's busted, and Bell won't give me a replacement until mid-August due to backorders. They have been "nice" enough to sell me a Pearl for $45 to keep as a backup.
I come to you guys to find out what I need to know. It's still a BB, but they're totally different beasts. So any and all help is appreciated. Thanks!
I wouldn't load it up with too many apps, as the Pearls tend to be a little short on memory and your text messages and call logs will start disappearing once you hit the wall. The one app you should get is Quickpull, as there's no way to do a reset without physically opening up the cover and yanking the battery. Also make sure the OS is 4.5, as it tends to have a little better memory management.
I have a pearl and I agree with all the advice here except the one about downloading quickpull. I downloaded it recently thinking it would be so great, I wouldn't have to take my skin off and my phone apart to pull the batterry. It does do what it is supposed to do, simulate a battery pull, but it also would freeze my phone up constantly and I had memory leaks like crazy. Have it a week and then I deleted it and my phone and I see much happier

i dont mind pulling the battery out, i can spare a minute of my day once a week. and i have very few apps on the phone to preserve memory. i would also clear my interent cache on a regular basis, frees up alot of memory.
i'm in the same boat, only i'm using my old pearl while i try to sell my unlocked storm. i have never had any major issues with the pearl, and i can FLY when it comes to typing on the pearl's keypad. i would recommend not using system intensive apps, as the pearl is much slower hardware wise than the storm. i personally have a weather app, beejive IM, file scout, and socialscope for apps. i dont really need anything else for the time being. just dont treat your pearl like the storm when it comes to storage or apps, and it should be a great phone to you.
Great advice so far. Get at least a 2 gig memory card. That seemed to help a lot with memory lose. I personal love the pearl. It is a very solid device.
