KKlick, obvious questions but you have a BlackBerry Data plan and you are not using a pay and go/prepaid sim card?

run set up wizard from your desktop
I have the Desktop Manager app, I'm not seeing a setup wizard. Unless you mean my BB's desktop, in which case all I see is an option for BES, and skip email setup. Nothing about a personal email.

Did you receive a browser icon and an email settings icon after activation?

Once again, ALL signs point to your PIN still being assigned to the old owner, if the phone was bad, you wouldn't be calling and texting.
Call Alltel and have them transfer you to a BB specialist. You NEED the pin released from the old owner and provisioned to your account.

Just got off the phone with Alltel again, same old BS.

What's the best (read: cheapest) route of getting a new BB?
Buy one from the store that is brand new/unused.

I say it's the "Cheapest" because you run a lower risk of having to deal with BS like what you're going through now. Sometimes, you do get what you pay for...

Bought mine brand new from the store for 150 dollars with my sprint customer rebate and 4 months later got my 100 dollar mail in rebate check...bringing the cost of the phone down to 50 dollars total.
I haven't had a problem with my berry since the day I got it that wasn't caused by apps I loaded on it. As far as the hardware is concerned, it has not so much as hiccuped.

    Good luck,

Should be an icon called "SET-UP WIZARD".

If you don't see it, hit the blackbery button (the one with the 7 dots) and click on "Show All".
That should reveal the icon so that you can click on it and get the registration process started.

He said in the setup wizard he gets an option for BES or to skip email. I don't think the phone is provisioned correctly.

Did you speak specifically with a BLACKBERRY specialist????
You NEED your pin released so you can set up a BIS account.

    Geez

Yes I did, and I told him about my PIN and he said that he looked into it and everything seemed to be checking out.

    I'm not stupid.

um ok, I didn't say you were, however most csr's are not very good with blackberries, if in fact he was honest with you and your pin is clear, have the next one resend your service books and verify you are provisioned for a bis, not a bes account.

am with Alltel and have pearl. For some reason, the last two days my connection has been turning itself off. Ut says it is on, but I don't get email or internet until I turn it off and back on. Then works fine until the next morning. I have to go into my connections and options then manage connections to turn off then repeat to turn on. Haven't had time to dig any further yet. But it works for now. See if you can do this.

I told you eariler that you need to speak to a RIM rep and find out what is going on with your BB. Most SP can call them and patch you through to them. They will be able to tell you everything about your BB. I don't know if I would accept that pre-production model bullsh!t.

Yeah, it is bull****. I just got an email back from the seller and he told me that it was working fine for the two weeks he had it. (The guy is legit, he's got 100% +500 feedback) He recommended I bring it to an Alltel Store and they could probably take care of it for me. Problem is, closest Alltel Store is a few hours away.

I'll have to go school shopping soon, so I'll probably hit one of the stores up our next trip. This is such a PITA.

Yikes! Sorry to hear it doesn't work.

I only buy my phones directly from the store in case I have a problem! I didn't read the last couple pages but I hope you can get it figured out! Check the store for a deal, I got my curve for 99$.
