I have Alltel 8130 Pearl and I'm having troubles with John Clarks instructions. not sure if it's b/c I have a CDMA vs GSM. I've never attempted to do this before so any help would be appreciated!

So I already have the Desktop Manager on my PC that I DL from the CD when I got my berry. I still have the latest Alltel OS installed on my berry.

Step 2 is to Install the OS package... I downloaded that successfully.

Step 3 successfully deleted vendor.xml file

Step 4. I don't have the shared folder. He has a note posted: Note: If you don't see the "Shared" folder go back to step #2 and install the OS to your device as instructed. So I was thinking I did something wrong, so I re-downloaded the OS package, still no shared folder. So I'm pretty much stuck. Any advice?

    Thanks!

where are you looking for the shared folder, in what path, if you have the os installed on the desktop, it would be in C:\Program Files\Common Files\Research In Motion\Shared

did you install the OS to your PC, or just download it? You need to use the quick install that you download.

It will have a title 8130_4.3xxx, thats the file you need to DL.

Did you get the OS from here?
BlackBerry - BlackBerry Desktop and Device Software Download Sites

That would be the link. You need to download Handheld OS, not device manager

cjcarbone, yes, that is where I downloaded the OS from.

And yes I was looking for C:\Program Files\Common Files\Research In Motion\Shared but I don't have the Shared. I only have AppLoader, Modem Drivers, USB Drivers, BBBI Drivers and RIMDeviceManager for folders.

It should have downloaded a blue square icon to your desktop( or wherever you saved it)

You then double click the new icon, and it will pop up a quick install prompt.

This is the file you downloaded right?

Ok, so I'm finally done. I didn't get as much memory as I would have liked out of it.
    Before ~ 11,137,245
    After 15,916,269

Hopefully this helps with the memory leak. I didn't have a problem for about 2 months, then it came back last week and has happened 3 times. My most recent DL was Viigo, CB edition so that might have something to do with it?

Let's see how this works, again thanks for your help cjarbone!
