Same answer to both posts: reboot your computer with your phone plugged in. Almost always solves that problem.

Are you running Windows 7? If so, see if this helps.

Thanks
Might not hurt to mention I'm running Win7 32-bit on my tower and Win7 64-bit on my laptop. I tried installing, running, and backing up with DM on my Win7 Starter netbook but it doesn't have the power, major fail. I had to redo the install I was attempting with my desktop.
My above suggestion should work devices simply not being seen in XP/Vista/Windows 7 32- and 64-bit with no issues. If it's something else, then that fix should, well, fix things.

What operating system do you have?

First of all, its a long story relating to me being an ***** and I lost my Address Book to my Curve. A friend gave me his old Pearl 8130, OS 4.3.0.81, and I was going to load my address book from a Back Up I did last September that I just found. I have already added a lot to my new address book, so I thought I could get even more old numbers back this way.

Oy. Well, the good news is that I really can't say merging contacts is impossible as I don't know that it can't be done. The bad news, however, is that it can NOT be done the way you intend to do it - restoring from backup will replace what's on your device, even if it's contacts only.

I am in agreement, thats why I have the old Pearl that is not used anymore. I am trying to load the address book to the Pearl, then I can piece through it and manually load it to my Curve. Then I will do a back up a more often than I previously did.

That sounds like a weekend project.
With my Pearl, I used DM 4.7; if you have the latest it might not work so well. Also does any other program that detects BlackBerry's have issues detecting that one?

I do have DM 5.0, so are you saying that could be a problem? How do I go about getting an older version?

DM 4.7 should be in the dropdown menu; I can't tell if this is the right one as I'm posting from my 'Berry. :P

There is a positive. DM now connects to the old Pearl. But now my bad news. I go to Advanced Options and load the old Back Up file. For some reason, my Address Book can not be selected and therefore I can not restore it to the Pearl. Any suggestions?
