Is there a know way to edit an IPD file to insert fake text messages with a timestamp of my choosing? I realize I can edit text messages that are already there, but I need to add new messages with timestamps.

Yes and the answer to your original question is absolutely not.
Why on Earth would one even need to do this.

Actually, yes you can. WHY, I don't even want to know. Look into ABC ipd editor. You're on your own from there.

pltaylor, I don't think that is correct. ProcessText has programs
to edit the contact list, bookmarks but I don't know of anything
    they have to accomplish this.

With ABC converter you can convert a ipd back up to lets say word format(you actually have several formats to choose from). From there, you can make a text say anything you want. Including it's time stamp. Then convert it back to ipd and restore it as a back up. I didn't say would be easy. And I still don't want to know why the op needs to be able to do this. But it's not impossible. Oh, also this is not available in the free trial of ABC converter. You will need to purchase the software.
