Just started to happen... get sms or calls in / out .. they just dissappear.. any ideas how to stop it..

Yes, free up some of your memory, check your status first for FREEMEM, then pull your battery and when it powers back on check again. You should try and keep your FREEMEM to at least 10MB.

which requires pulling the battery out every other day at minimum. I use the quickpull app and do it once a day, every day.
