OK here is an interresting one for some of you guys.

I am trying to add a custom ring tone for my wife. It will not allow me to. When I select add custom ring tone. nothing happens. It does not give me the option to add it, and it does not show up at the bottom.

    Any suggestions?

    -----EDIT------
OK it has gotten worse on further review. I can add no new custom ring tones, to any user. If I delete the ones I have I can't add them back.

    Thanks
    Harold

Before we go any further, you might be getting low on memory, and the device is not responding correctly. First go to Options>Status and tell me what the free file size is. Then pull the battery with the phone on so it will reset. You won't loose anything. Then try adding the ring tone again. Let me know.

Here is something very strange for you. I am on verizon. I deleted the music, as was described in one of the posts. I just added that file back, and now I can create custom ring tones.

    Any suggestions on that?

What was the music file you deleted? You added it back to where?

The file is called : net_rim_bb_media_tunebundles_qualcomm

    I removed it from :C:\Program Files\Common Files\Research In Motion\Shared\Loader Files\8130-v4.3.0.97_P3.1.0.51\Java

When I put it back I can add custom ring tones. I just removed it again, and I am going to see if it fails again

OK removed file, and it failed. I am now going to put it back and see if it lets me do it.

That's your answer. That contains all of the pre-loaded ring tones. You can't just remove one tone as they are all bundled into one file.

Well I wanted to remove all of the preloaded ones and just use ones that I downloaded (which was a recommendation of Gadget Geek, I believe) to free up space. However with that file removed, I can not select any custom ring tones, including my own.

Your are correct. If you remove that file all of the custom ring tone will be gone. That includes any for the calendar, alarm, sms, mms, or the phone itself. But if you have your ring tones loaded onto the media card in the ring tone folder, those should work.

They are on my media card. and I can select them for the profiles, however I cannot select individual ones for specific contacts in the address book.

Just so I know I am with you, you open address book, highlight but not open a contact, click menu, scroll down to Add Custom Ring Tone, and you can't see the folder with your tones?

Well that way works, even with that file missing... I was editing the user first and then selecting add custom ring. Thanks for your help on this.

I found a few other things abou this 8130 tonight and I am starting to actually like it now.
